Colo. Blood Drive Offers Free Beer

October 27, 2003 07:44 AM EST

DURANGO, Colo. - Sounds like a fair trade: blood for beer. United Blood Services of Durango, Colo., held an unusual blood drive this weekend.

Donors got a free pint of beer for a pint of blood. Four area breweries took part in the promotion.

People from the blood bank got into the spirit of the season, by dressing in Halloween costumes including vampires.

There was a little more at stake for the brewers than just civic pride. The owner of the brewery that collected the least amount of blood will get a makeover today: hair dyed blood red.

NOW this is the way to obtain civic response...why haven't the political parties used this? (-:

Not a bad idea - not only do you help the community by donating blood, but you get that much more of a beer buzz in the process...

This will be a great way for me to get some blood out of my alcohol stream.

As a poor college student, I'd participate in blood drives for the free pizza. The turnout was still usually pretty low. Now, if you offer beer... Wow! Great idea! This nation will never want for blood again!

"Mmm - Beer!"

Actually, politicians did try this, which is why bars used to be closed on election day.

My husband said it is a "give us a pint and we'll give you a pint" campaign.

I donated Friday and got a $.25 undershirt.

I remember hearing about some homeless guys who would donate a different body fluid for cash then buy their beverage of choice with the money.

Bud for Blood

Yuck. They need to at least make it decent beer.

Of course, nothing bloody rhymes with Guiness Extra Stout.

"Open your vein, let the blood run out and we'll give you a Guiness Stout."

Eh, maybe.

With your blood you needn't be frugal,
we'll swap you for a Leinenkugle.

Definite possibilities. One of the better mass-produced, micro-at-hearts on the market.

In Denmark they used to offer this at the end of the donation, just as they do with water, soda, etc, in the U.S. The buzz was said to be seismic.
