Thanks for answering! I didn't consider it being a wiseacre -- I was just curious because I heard one of the reporters say that the fire could burn down the mountainside and I wasn't sure about that.

fires can burn down a mountain side. However fires burn better up a mountain due to a better supply of oxygen to feed the fire. Hence, that is why fires burn faster up and generlly slower down a mountain. It's an oxygen thing. :)

Apparently, I don't understand.

Of course fire burns down a mountainside but, much more slowly.

All sides of the hills are burned here.
