An event with Arnold showing up, offering assistance would resolve the matter of the lack of bipartisanship in the rescue effort.

Of course, if the GOP leadership isn't smart enough to figure out what is going on, then they don't really belong in leadership anyway... do they?

If the WH won't get the POTUS to California now, he should at least get interviewed by local news media reps in Washington one-on-one.

He needs to counter Davis' air time.

Oh yeah...great political move there! Let's bring Bush out...let's throw more chaos on the situation by having POTUS tie up highways, shut down streets, etc as he moves around the areas just so he can get a photo-op. Can anyone honestly think that the Secret Service will allow him anywhere NEAR the affected areas?! Let's play politics while people's lives are being destroyed. Frankly, if I'm in the middle of some evacuaion, I would want POTUS and anybody else to get the hell out of the way and not step in my face just to say "I feel your pain."

Just as the Dems tried to make political hay out of the blackout in August (remember Dan Blathermouth saying Bush should cancel his fundraiser and address the nation?), this too will fail because people have common sense. Doofus can play politics all he wants...he's a political dead man walking. Bush should stay where he can do the most good, at the White House to run the country, and not play pandering feel-good politics.

Just heard on KUSI that the fire at I-15 & 76 was small, and has now been extinguished by the CDF.

I heard the same thing but, there's still plenty of smoke & 1 tanker keeps circling (other headed S. about 15 min ago.

I don't think the SR76/I-15 thing is over.
there's now 3 tankers on it !

Sorry to hear that. According to local news reports 50+% of all homes in Crest were lost. One station did a live broadcast from the heart of town and it looked devestated. Crest is a great place...close to town yet still very much a rural area. I hope all can afford to rebuild.

and your opinion is precisely the logic that has lead to NO Republicans in statewide office.

Yesterday everyone was complaining that Davis was taking too long to come out and make a speech. Now they're complaining that he's out speaking. And it seems logical for the insurance commissioner to have a high profile in a disaster such as this, when thousands will have insurance claims.

As I understand it the price of pine firewood has dropped to less then zero per cord in some of the SoCal mountain areas affected by the bark beetles and drought. That is, no one will buy it and you have to pay to have the wood taken away.

One property I know of is eight acres in the mountains near Julian, San Diego County, and has at least 50 dead Coulter Pines on it, mostly scattered around. The cost to have them removed is very high and so the owner will probably be leave them standing. Most of his absentee neighbors are apparently following the same strategy.

seeing Arnold out there would fix the lack of GOP representation on the TV emergency coverage.

Hunter said Gen. Richard Myers, the Joint Chiefs chairman, offered use of the Colorado Springs-based Military Aerial Firefighting wing to assist in combating fires, but that the required request from the governor's office for that help has not been made.Another, similar unit at Point Mugu, has already been released to help fight the fires.

This is criminal!

I know that I've never complained about the absence of comment from Gray Davis.

If anything, this is a federal response issue because the governor has called the gov's of Nevada and Arizona regarding the need for assistance.

Thank you......

The very last thing those brave firefighters and support personnel need is to worry about Presidential photo ops. President Bush is savy enough to know his place right now. Clinton, on the other hand..............

Agree, & I'd like to add :
1. the current "fire areas" voted Doofus out of office
2. in Nov 2004, Doofus' grandstanding on this will be a faint memory.

Are you anywhere NEAR southern California?!? Do you have any idea of the reality on the ground right now?!? These fires are moving so fast and furious, the firefighters are battling for their lives and for entire communities, people are getting BURNED TO DEATH as they are trying to escape...and you want to play political tic-for-tac with the Dems!??!

Maybe you can sit back where you are and count the airtime that Doofus is getting, but people in the area frankly don't give a damn right now. They're too busy trying to save their families and their homes.

Yes! Someone's GOT to get some TV time, and they have to look like they are doing something useful/helpful.
