sending the head of FEMA doesn't do the job.

The POTUS has prioritized interests in Iraq ahead of interests in the nation's most important state (sorry Texas, Florida, and New York...but that's the fact).

The absence of the POTUS in the next 24 hours from California will cause the loss of this state in this election year.

The WH needs to wake up.

...they were here right away and actually provided immediate assistance.

That's great! That's what they SHOULD be doing, instead of posturing, and determining rank by who has been to what disaster....

Thank God for freerepublic.com!

My younger sister and her family are in San Diego. All was well last night when I spoke to her, but events are subject to change. I don't want to tie up phone lines or worry her excessively, so I rely on the news and fellow freepers for updates. We are praying for all Californians in Alabama today.

Go to KTLA, Channel 5 -- they have their helicopter up in the Simi Valley area and are covering the fires around the LA area with reporters on the groud. In fact, one of their teams in Devore was so close to a fire that broke out that they had to evacuate the area.

By two o'clock there should be an on shore flow and bring in more moisture. High will break down and temperatures will be in the 70's later this week with humidity on the rise. Fire will turn back on itself where it has already burned according to KTLA, Mark Kriski.

During the Moore tornado in 1999, they were inept and wouldn't take any action until some clinton moron from Texas showed up and then it got worse instead of better. Joe Albaugh from OK took over FEMA and made major changes before he left and turned it over to people who take first come, first serve no matter who you are.

Huge difference.

The girl on the right (who's on Fox Sports too) just said something about her "green card".

You caught that too?

Go to KTLA, Channel 5

Can't do it - D* only has the four network affiliates as distant locals (one of the few areas where Dish is better than DirecTV), so I'm stuck with the four of them.

KTLA is the WB affiliate in LA.

They have people scattered on the ground all over Simi Valley and Chatsworth.

The President will not be in this area while the fires are still raging. The law enforcement/fire fighters do not need a Presidential visit right now -- they have more than enough on their hands.

Do any of you realize the planning and amount of preparation that is required right now for a Presidential visit since 9/11? Those people are needed to help handle the fires until everything is under control.

If that causes the President to lose CA so be it, but he would lose more votes if he came in within the next 24 hours with the fires still raging. I know I would be really mad if the President visited and pulled off crews helping where I lived.

This President believes that you allow the people on the ground to handle emergencies since he is not equipped to man a fire line and the last thing these firefighters need right now is to see the President while fighting fires with the number of people that travel with the President for his protection.

Do you think she's another liberal, anti-US, canadian?

Yep.

Her bio from KTTV's site:

Jillian Barberie provides the latest weather forecasts for Fox 11 Morning News and the Emmy award-winning Good Day LA, seen weekdays on KTTV FOX 11. She also files reports for Fox Style, the weekly segment that spotlights the hottest and hippest trends in fashion.

Barberie joined Good Day LA in June 1995 after two years as weather anchor on the weeknight editions of the Emmy-winning Fox 11 10 O'clock News. Barberie joined FOX 11 in October 1993.

Since joining FOX 11, Barberie has provided live coverage of weather-related disasters in Southern California, including the 1998 El Nino storms. She provided live reports from around the Southland for Fox Overtime, Fox 11’s post-game show that followed the 1995 and 1996 NFL games.

Barberie’s talent beyond the Good Day LA has earned her special appearances on various television shows. She has a recurring role as “Foxy Levin” in V.I.P. with Pamela Anderson Lee, as a game show host in Clueless, as a news reporter in Beverly Hills 90210, and as herself in the series finale of Melrose Place. In June 2000, Barberie was a guest host on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. In September 2000, she joined NFL on Fox with Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and James Brown.

Barberie joined FOX 11 from WSVN, the Fox station in Miami, Fla., where she had worked since February 1992 as the weeknight weathercaster on their 5,6 and 10PM newscasts. During 1992's devastating Hurricane Andrew, she provided live reports on the disaster for 48 hours straight. While there, Barberie also reported the weekly segments "7 Freestyle," about sports and entertainment, and "Express Yourself," concerning topical issues.

Prior to WSVN, Barberie worked for Canada's Weather Network as their weeknight weathercaster from September 1990 to February 1992. While there, she also filed reports on environmental issues and concerns.

Barberie graduated from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) with a broadcast journalism degree.

...first come, first serve no matter who you are.

That was one of the big problems.... they were giving preferential treatment.

Our home is on Nesthorn Dr. just up from the Lodge. Sounds like it might burn as the fire goes to the lake. Have not heard if the town is still standing.

KTLA just reported the President is sending funds to CA to help fight these fires and more will be on the way. He may not be coming out there right now, but money sure is.
