Syria says cannot stop militants entering Iraq - "If America cannot stop Mexicans..."

LONDON, Oct. 25 — Syria cannot stop militants entering Iraq to attack U.S. forces, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara said in an interview with a British Sunday newspaper.

-- snip --

''They are very determined and many of them dream of seeing an American tank,'' Shara said of militants who cross the border into Iraq.

''We are doing everything we can,'' he told the Sunday Telegraph. ''We have tightened our checkpoints and are turning people back. But the border is long and we cannot cover it all.

''If America, a rich superpower cannot stop Mexicans crossing into the United States, then how can we, a poor country, be expected to stop Palestinians getting into Iraq.''

I know all about these thugs. They've caught some of them, but it is still going on. A Modesto cop told me to keep my shotgun handy, "that will take care of that shit" is what he said.

The difference is in how we treat different regimes and their citizens.

How do you know that the people crossing the Mexican and Canadian borders are all Mexican and Canadian nationals?

There is an Axis of Evil and an alliance of Islamic terrorists. Foreign forces have attacked the American heartland in a scope not seen since the War of 1812.

Indeed. This makes the greatest point for tightening the security of our borders that can possibly be made.

They intend to destroy our nation.

Right, therefore we should scrunitize closely everyone who tries to enter our nation.

We must kill them. You are arguing that we should treat the borders with Mexico and Canada as war zones

Really? I thought i've been arguing that people should not be able to cross the Mexican and Canadian borders illegally and unchecked. Perhaps we've been reading different threads.

and if not, you are agreeing that the terrorist regime of Syria should not be held responsible for the Americans they kill by proxy.

Now, come on. Show me where I said that. Scroll up through this entire thread and point out where I said that anywhere.

You're just making things up now. If you disagree, then just be a gentleman and say that you disagree. Reasonable people can hold different positions on an issue.

But to just completely make things up is really something that I thought you were above.

I don't know that the people already in the country are supposed to be here. I'm sure some of them are not. Should we institute immediate national ID cards and do spot checks on the street, in the store, in places of worship, at sporting events, at political rallies ?

Perhaps I synthesized your responses with those of a different poster who was agreeing with the Syrian PR mouthpiece that Syria should not be accountable for the terrorists they support because the US cannot keep migrant workers from entering the US illegally.

No, but we should correct the problem before it gets worse, and disallow more unchecked illegal immigration. Since you have admitted that we can't reliably identify the ones that are here already, does letting more and more in any make any rational sense to you? Is it your position that sense some of them are already here, we might as well let the rest of them in?

Perhaps I synthesized your responses with those of a different poster who was agreeing with the Syrian PR mouthpiece that Syria should not be accountable for the terrorists they support because the US cannot keep migrant workers from entering the US illegally.

Perhaps you were synthesizing that. But, one must wonder how possible it truly is to control a very long, pourous, desert border. We, the U.S. haven't been able to do it, but Syria is somehow supposed to waive a magic wand and monitor every square inch of border to make sure no nay're-do-wells get across.

Who is going to teach them this skill? Us?

This is a clear case of do as we say, not as we do.

And they aren't all "migrant workers". I live in Los Angeles. They like the free healthcare, including prenatal. I am behind non-english speaking people all of the time with eight kids who are using food-stamps buying more groceries than I could afford.

You obviously haven't been caught in the cross-fire of a Mexican gang-war.

Let's knock of this nonesense that everyone is coming over here to benefit Uncle Sam. There is a not insignicant portion who come over for handouts and have the attitude that we somehow owe them something, or they will take it by force.

All of them? Of course not. But enough to matter. Enough to effect the health, safety, and well-being of American citizens. I would be interested to know how much illegal alien crime is committed in this country on a yearly basis. I'm willing to bet that it is pretty darn close to the effect of 9/11 ... yearly. It's not nearly as dramatic since it is not one huge event, but dare I say that the cumulative effects are greater.

That's me at my local HEB----all I hear is Spanish when I am in there and I swear I am the only one that pays cash...most everyone else pays with WIC Cards or use the "Lone Star" cards (welfare debit cards). And their carts are full of the best cuts of meats....cuts I certainly can't afford!

I agree on the stupidity of not having our troops on the borders, particularly during war and a war on terrorism, at that. At the very least, why aren't state militias used strategically for border patrol in the more porous areas?

The tone and substance of your reply suggests sympathy for the terrorist sponsoring regime of Syria. Since I can't reliably conclude you are really an American conservative patriot [you could be a Dem, lots of people are Dems], the only alternative in keeping with your reasonable request is to zot you ...

Same here --- most people in the groceries stores in this area speak no English, use only WIC and food stamps. The stores act surprised when you try to pay with a check.

Being in favor of immigration control does not equal being racist.

There might be some racists against massive immigration ---- but I think if Canada came out and proclaimed that Canadians did not have to follow US laws and that Canadians were entitled to US welfare, free college, Social Security benefits even if they used stolen Social Security numbers to work here and so on ---- we'd be just as much or more against that.

None of them have had background checks. Are you really going to say they are all honest work seekers? Some are. Others are drug smugglers armed and dangerous, importing their poisons to wreak havoc in our cities. Others are criminals murderers, rapists, robbers, fleeing their home country to avoid being arrested and prosecuted.

That's very true. Someone has to be completely naive to believe that only the rapists, murderers, drug smugglers and other criminals in Mexico are following our immigration laws and NOT coming over that border. There is no screening at all, besides the criminals from Mexico coming in there are those with drug resistant TB, all kinds of Hepatitis, HIV --- some coming for their free health care some still healthy enough to spread these diseases throughout the USA. I know people whose children began to test positive in TB skin tests ---- because their illegal maid/babysitter had an active case. These children then exposed the entire school to TB.

A facetious argument. We can do better and so can they, but, unlike most of our illegal immigrants, those who are crossing over their borders are crossing to kill.

The US-Mexican border probably just happened to be on his mind. Murdering mexican drug smugglers arent the only ones who can make use of the border.

The tone and substance of your reply suggests sympathy for the terrorist sponsoring regime of Syria.

The tone and substance of your posts suggest a complete and utter lack of common-sense and/or brainwashing.

A despicable person can utter a truth. You may not like it, but that is a fact. Syria uttered one truth. You know it is true, but it is your position is that if Syria calls a leopard spotted, we are to say it is striped.

I think we are a better country than having to resort to that kind of convoluted nonsense, and labelling everyone who doesn't agree that the leapoard is spotted as a traitor is simply propaganda to quell rational debate. More of a DU tactic if you ask me, but teach his/her own.

Since I can't reliably conclude you are really an American conservative patriot [you could be a Dem, lots of people are Dems], the only alternative in keeping with your reasonable request is to zot you ...

Well, there goes my reason for living. Since I was a little boy, knee-high to a grass hopper, my life's goal was to convince af_vet_1981 that I was an American Consertive Patriot.

Now that I have failed in my mission, I simply do not know what I will do. Life has lost all meaning. Flowers no longer smell as sweet. Pizza no longer tastes the same.

Oh, please do not "zot" me. Take mercy on me. Think of my family, think of my children. Think of how my community will ostracize me once they realize that I have fallen out of your good graces.

Please reconsider. I promise to declare that the emporer has no clothes the next time you demand that I do so!

Or just zot me. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Syria uttered one truth. You know it is true,

I know it is a lie. They say they can't stop the terrorists because America has relatively open borders. They don't want to stop the terrorists. We are their enemy. they are our enemy. It is that simple and your praise of Syrian propaganda disgusts me when I remember Beirut.

Your wish is granted. You get to keep shilling for Assad. Enjoy.

Syria knows where they live. We know Syria knows where they live. Syria knows we know they know ...

Knows where they live?

Well, do we know where our illegal aliens live? And if so, what are we doing about it?

Maybe they know that we know where ours live as well. Hence, their point. And a valid point at that.

Once we shore up our borders, we'll have a moral mandate demanding that others do so.

And I still say that cumulative crime by illegal aliens in this country far eclipsed the damage cause by 9/11, and threaten our national security even more. Especially if extrapolated over the years. The 9/11 folks should not have even been here in the first place.

You're advocating fighting an offensive war with absolutely no line of defense againt our country. Kind of like a hockey team with no goalie.

Not a brilliant strategy, IMHO.
