It looks like another x42 Alumni is finding a downside to that association, once they are no longer politically useful. There are some that think Dan Goldin should be occupying a cell rather than a University President's office for his role in compromising space shuttle and space station safety.

Translation: This is Silber's playpen and he can stay as long as he wants and do what he wants. Good luck finding another patsy to be "president."

Goldin's behavior is unpredictable. I have been told by NASA insiders that Dan sometimes does not take his meds for bipolar disorder which can result in bizarre, violent outbursts. His tenure at NASA was marked by continual budget cuts to please the Clinton Administration. Those cuts increased the risk to the Shuttle since well known problems, e.g., the RCC leading edge, could not be fixed cheaply. The RCC leading edge was probably key to the loss of Columbia. He allowed the Station partnership with the Russians to drive ruinously expensive changes such as changing the orbit of the Station to a higher inclination. That made it easier for the Russians and much harder for our launch vehicles to get there. Morale at NASA plummeted under his command. In short, he will be remembered as a pliable sycophant of Gore who let NASA deteriorate.

He was offered the presidency in a unanimous vote July 8, with trustee chairman Christopher A. Barreca calling him a "visionary."Dan Goldin? This is the same guy who ran NASA twice? Mr "Faster, Better, Cheaper" and more crashable? That guy?
Calling him a visionary is like calling Benedict Arnold a patriot. Did this come from the Onion?
