Bush Issues Ramadan Statement

The White House has issued President Bush's annual greeting to Muslims around the world who will observe the holy month of Ramadan.

In his message, President Bush says Islam is a peaceful religion that has helped shape the character of the United States, and has made great contributions to the world.

Mr. Bush said Americans cherish the freedom to worship and, he said, "we remain committed to welcoming individuals of all religions."

During Ramadan, President Bush said Muslims fast, pray, contemplate and renew their commitment to lead lives of honesty, integrity and compassion.

I've said several times here, and consistently elsewhere, that President Bush ought not address Islam much at all.

I've never said that he should trash Islam, or Muslims.

It's Mohamed's religion, and he was a murderer. Murderers for Islam are being true to Mohammed.

Jesus wasn't a murderer, he was a martyr. Catholics, or any other Christians, who've murdered for their faith or any other reason, have been untrue to Jesus.

The fact that hundreds of thousands of Jews were routinely killed off in European pograms throughout European history is also very well documented...killed by Christians by the way.

The fact the millions have died at the hands of so-called Christians, in the name of Jesus and God is hardly different then what Islam did itself.

All of which has no bearing whatsoever on the religious rights of ALL U.S. CITIZENS and the President's duty to recognize them equally.
