PHILIPPINES: Islamic Terrorists Now the Top Threat

October 24, 2003: The government announced that terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) had now become the chief threat in the country. MILF, NPA and Abu Sayyaf are considered on the way out (because of police and army pressure and internal dissention.) Unlike the older groups, which were in it for the money and long term political goals, JI is a terrorist operation out to make total war on non-Moslems.

October 23, 2003: Recent arrests and captured documents revealed that Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and al Qaeda had dozens of members loose in the country. Many terrorist plots were underway. The government also says that there must be more cooperation with Indonesia and Malaysia because Islamic terrorists move between the three countries depending on where the police pressure is heaviest.

October 20, 2003: A police raid in the southern city of Cotabato found a biological weapons laboratory and document linking the operation to terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah.

October 16, 2003: Over a hundred Islamic fundamentalists turned out to pay their respects to Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) bomb maker Fathur Rohman al-Ghozi as his body was returned home for burial. Police believe that some of the new MILF camps being set up in remote mountain jungles are being used as al Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah training camps.

-----------------------

Islam is a form of biological warfare. It's raised in jihad test tubes in Mohammedan countries and sprayed in other countries. Don't expect much cooperation from Indonesia and Malaysia. That's where the warfare lab production sites are and they protect those sites. because Islamic terrorists move between the three countries

I just returned from Mindanao myself, but I was far from Cotabato and Zamboanga. They even had a terrorist attack in western Mindanao while I was there, but I was in eastern Mindanao, where it is safer than the US. We walked the streets late at night. I would not do that in the US.

I'm glad that they are taking the JI threat seriously. I think they are wrong on two counts, however.

First, the NPA is not on the way out, and it is still a very potent threat to the government.

Second, groups like the MILF and ASG can form links (assuming they are not linked already) with the JI, helping to keep them viable and giving them local resources and networks to access.
