Senate OKs raise in pay for itself
WASHINGTON (AP) -- For the fifth straight year, members of Congress will see a jump in their paychecks in 2004, with election-year salaries rising from the current $154,700 to about $158,000.
The Senate, on a 60-34 vote Thursday, rejected a proposal to exempt senators from a cost-of-living increase going to all civilian federal workers and military personnel. Last month, the House, by a similar convincing margin, also turned back an attempt to deny lawmakers an automatic share of the COLA increase.
"I think that our representatives of government deserve a pay raise consistent with the work that we've produced," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

I want names...If Ricky Santorum voted for this it's another reason I won't vote for him.

"I think that our representatives of government deserve a pay raise consistent with the work that we've produced."
This obviously shows just how out of touch these ego driven POS politicians have become. They haven't done two weeks worth of actual work in their lives, yet alone during one year.
Got rope?

Walter Williams suggested that it would be cheaper to pay Congresscritters $1,000,000 per day for staying away from Washington.

I asked this question on another thread. Sorry for the duplication but....
Did they make it a LOAN?
To: 11B3
Did we really expect the members of Congress to vote against raising their own pay? They
created a law several years ago granting themselves automatic pay raises unless a majority
Voted against it. That is also why they raised the Presidents salary - kind of rough picking on a sitting Presidents financial policies when you are making more than he is.
Reality check please!
I wonder how many members of Congress running for re-election are going to mention their
annual pay? More important, how many of them are going to admit that they are now members
of the "RICH"?
Thats right, by all available Democratic standards, every member of Congress is now a member
of the "RICH" and they got there by their own actions. Rather, their own inactions.
Remember this little detail every time you hear a Demo talking about "taxing the RICH to pay for .."

I can't get worked up over this; it happens every year, it seems, or at least every other year. And every time, the news reports it and everyone gets all bothered for a few days. I hardly think a tiny percentage bump in pay is outrageous. Granted, I don't think it should be automatic, as the current law dictates, but it's not like they're fleecing us with pay raises. I'm more concerned about the money they vote to give to someone else.

Yuppers SB. ON closer examination here's my take...The congresscritters make it so confusing no one know what the hell they are voting for or against. Notice how >conservative< Arlen has become now that he's up against Toomey? Arlen will get in again...sigh...so will Ricky...bottom line...RINOS.
prisoner6 PS it takes me awhile to respond cuz I don't have a computer at home at the moment...Kidz moving out needed them more than I did...might take me a couple of months to get back up to speed...unless I can get government assistance...LOL!

Notice how >conservative< Arlen has become now that he's up against Toomey?I agree but not on THIS vote ! He voted No on an amendment to remove the automatic "cost of living" increase. He voted NOT to amend the AUTOMATIC PAY INCREASE ! Not too conservative on THIS vote.
