WASHINGTON (CNN) - U.S. officials are sweeping Wal-Mart stores across the country in a bid to arrest about 300 illegal workers, law enforcement officials said Thursday.
The arrests came as part of investigation into subcontractors that provide cleaning crews for Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer. Many of those arrested were eastern European nationals who were coming off night cleaning shifts at various Wal-Mart locations, the officials said.

No reason that Walmart can't stipulate to their subcontractors You're correct, there's not reason they can't. Perhaps they should also lists the other laws they expect their subcontractors to obey, the list really couldn't be that long, right?
Now suppose they stipulate no illegal workers and the subcontractors decide to ignore that part of the contract. We would still see the same headline about Wal*Mart and illegal workers. Sure, Wal*Mart could sue, but what would be the point?

Sorry, but if Wal-mart insists that their suppliers comply with the law, then the same should go for their contractors. They set themselves up as supportive of American-made goods and services, and supporting the troops. Its too late to cry "VICTIM".
From their website:
Wal-Mart strives to do business only with factories run legally and ethically. We continue to commit extensive resources to making the Wal-Mart system one of the very best. We require suppliers to ensure that every factory conforms to local workplace laws and that there is no illegal child or forced labor. Wal-Mart also works with several different outside monitoring firms to randomly inspect thousands of these factories each year to ensure compliance. In fact, we conduct more than 300 factory inspections each week as part of our commitment. In short, we have no desire to do business with any factory being run illegally or unethically, and we feel that our program is helping to improve working conditions and create economic opportunity for workers around the world.

If you go after Hispanic illegal aliens first, people will claim that it's bias, that they're going after Hispanics for racial reasons. If you go after the Polish cleaning ladies first, then when you go after the Hispanics you can deflect the charges of racism.

Thanks for this - I just posted a vanity about this (which was rightfully pulled as you posted this) because I heard it on the news and hadn't seen a real source confirming the talking heads' report of it.

Not if the Poles decide that it is anti-Slavic racism.

Yes, a
showcase example which if down right is the beginning of a new trend and change in the govt. to actually put out the message especially to the likes of Vincente Fox - no more illegals will be tolerated.
The whole bunch of illegals does not to be removed to get the illegals to realize that they better go home or potentially face the same later. This alone could slow the flow across the borders by a large percentage. And this will make employers realize they cannot get away unscathed either.
Better check those documents a little closer for illegals, employers.

Do I think some in the press are eating this up because they hate capitalism? Absolutely.Since the marxists are the ones promoting "rights" for illegal immigrants to expand their welfare constituency and voter fraud, how does this fit into their plan?

To me, which was the point of my original vanity, and to some others, I see - is to punish a successful corporation that will NOT unionize, which is why its prices are low and it is successful. This has NOTHING to do with illegals. They are being used just this once, as a headline-maker. We never had, or will have, any intention to enforce immigration laws and they'll be happily let go. Another left coup in the press.

"Eastern European" illegals...? Hmmm... If they'd been Mexicans or Muslims they'd have been given drivers licenses and free money.

Be very careful about making copies. They are looking for any excuse to reject the petitions. Unfortunately, saveourlicense.com can only send you two originals when you request them, due to cost, and you cannot download them from the internet for obvious reasons.

What African Illegals? There are no African countries in the top 15 exporters of Illegal Immigrants according to 2000 census estimates.
Source: ESTIMATES OF UNAUTHORIZED IMMIGRANTS
All of the countries are in South America, but six: China (#6), Haiti (#11 Carribean), Philippines (#9), India (#12), Korea (#14), and Canada (#15).
Listen to you guys defend Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has a duty to make sure that it's subcontractors comply with the law.

Wal-Mart is a corporation that employs some 1.5 million people. Obviously with that many people on the payroll, there are going to be problems here and there. If three out of four ain't bad, then 1,499,700 out of 1,500,000 is pretty darn good. That means 99.98% of Wal-Mart employees are genuine Americans. Even our own military can't make that claim.

Better check those documents a little closer for illegals, employers. Precisely.
Illegal immigration will never subside as long as there are millions of employers saving money employing them without risk.

This has now become an outrage. I happen to be at home from work today, so have the idiot box on in the background. The TV is LOVING this Wal-Mart bash and they're all chortling about this 'illegal activity'. Why, just THINK - can an American company actually be hiring ILLEGALS???? They act like this is a first. And of course, they're not coming from Mexico - they're WHITE, EUROPEAN immigrants. Write, call, email to the media and Wal-Mart and express the fact that we know this is a hit piece on a successful, non-union company, pure and simple.
