Former First Lady Barbara Bush said Wednesday that her son, President Bush, never really had a drinking problem, though he might have given that impression with some offhanded comments during the 2000 presidential campaign.
Asked whether First Lady Laura Bush had played a key role in helping her husband turn his life around, the president's mother told CNN's "Larry King Live, "George was never a problem. He wasn't."
"He really was not all of these horrible things," Mrs. Bush continued. "He brought that on himself, I think, truthfully, with all his Jack Daniels - 'Choose me or Jack Daniels' or whatever it was he said on maybe CNN."
Mrs. Bush also weighed in on recent criticism from Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, who charged last week that her son had lied to the American people to get the U.S. into the Iraq war.
Asked about plans by the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library to honor Kennedy next month, Mrs. Bush said, "It's a little bit difficult since Ted spoke out rather indiscriminately . . . But he has served for many, many years as a Senator and I think George [Sr.] felt he deserved it."
Mrs. Bush also rebuked Larry King when he broached the topic of abortion, noting, "it's often been said that one area where you disagreed with many in the Republican Party was on the question of choice."
"It's often been said - a lot of things," Mrs. Bush shot back.
When King asked her to clarify, the former First Lady replied, "It's not your business. . . . I'm not an elected public official and I support my husband and my children."
When King continue to talk about abortion, Mrs. Bush finally ordered him to "move on."

Oh, yes -- Barbara Bush has just called the liberal media liars concerning their claim that her son was once an alcoholic. I think it may be time for the NYT etal. to put up or shut up. They should be pressed real hard on this.

I think Mrs. Bush is a great lady. But I strongly disagree with her pro-death stand.

Pro-death. Stuff THAT rhetoric. It doesn't apply to Barbara Bush and you have made yourself look mean.

Why do publications like Newsweek have to insert the lie of [Sr.]?
Hey, you so-called journalist at Newsweek that think your crap don't smell and are the anointed ones enlightened enough to control others...they are not "Senior and Junior". Try using a simple dictionary.

Why on Earth, then, Dear Lady, would a man who "never really had a drinking problem" announce to the entire world he had a drinking problem? Credit US with a little intelligence, please?
Denial is not just a river in North Africa but also runs strongly through the family of every drunk or sober alcoholic.
And if, as I firmly believe, President Bush suffers from the alergy to alcohol that manifests in the phenomenon of craving, has a Clinical Diagnosis and Symptoms -- and is called Alcoholism -- he is one drink away from his next drunk -- and therefore HAS a drinking problem, not HAD.
Which explains, of course, why, as all alcoholics must, he totally abstains from alcohol.
That way:
He don't drink
He don't fall down
He don't got no more problem!
Good on him!

When are people going to allow others to disagree. Is it NICER to call something what it isn't? Did you happen to listen to Brit Hume today as he went over all the "terms" the liberal networks used for PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION.
Being "NICE" isn't what this country is about........it is being TRUTHFUL.
To: Bonaparte
Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
W. was known to drink heavily back in the day. He swore it off on his 40th Birthday. He talked about this during the campaign.
His having an alcohol problem, kicking it, and then becoming Prez should be a source of INSPIRATION to all of us!

Getting a DWI or DUI means you have a drinking problem. Good on George for seeing it, though Mom is too loyal to admit it.

I ceased to have any use for the utterances of this woman when she rushed to support her Saudi "Princess" pal, Haifa bint Faisal, when that little sand nazi's money was found going to Saudi 9-11 terrorist hijackers.
