(10/17/03) BELLMORE - There's a bizarre new development in the Mepham High School hazing scandal. A religious group from Kansas is planning a controversial protest at the school on October 27.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church claim Mepham High School encourages homosexuality and that's what caused three football players to allegedly sexually abuse teammates at a Pennsylvania training camp.

A few years ago, Mepham High School created the gay-straight alliance and other civil right's groups. Principal John F. Didden says the clubs help foster tolerance and acceptance of all people.

Nassau police say they will have several officers at the protest to make sure things don't get out of control.
