EU to Donate More Than EU700 Million to Rebuild Iraq (Update1) Oct. 22 (Bloomberg) -- The European Union will offer more than 700 million euros ($818 million) for Iraq's reconstruction, topping the amount the 15-nation bloc contributed for the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

That's about 1/3 of what Japan alone gave. Nice to see 18 (or is it 21 now) industrialized nations living in peace with minimal military expenditures can find the resources.

I'll bet this is less than the EU spends on needle exchanges and pre-teen condoms.

Oops, I see Japan has changed its pledge to $1.5 billion. Still pretty huge compared to Germany's.
