Hello FR,
Yes, there has been GREAT NEWS TODAY ABOUT TERRI! Surely goodness and mercy WILL follow her all the days of her life...
I hope the Lead Moderator allows this Very Special "THANK YOU" thread (that I intend to email to Gov Bush) to stay in the sidebar, so all of you will see it and post on it.
But first, following all the recent (and totally unwarranted) Jeb-bashing on this forum, some people (especially new people) may desperately need this review and mini-lesson about Gov Bush:
(1) For those of you who doubted Gov Bush's DESIRE to HELP in this matter, SHAME ON YOU! Here is the full text of the letter Gov Bush wrote early on to Judge Greer, for those of you who missed it:
From JEB to FR: Full text of Gov Bush's letter to Judge Greer re: Terri Schiavo
(2) For those of you who did not know that Gov Bush has been, and continues to be, "FL's Favorite Governor", for MANY GOOD REASONS, check out these two articles about the guy FL is proud to call its Favorite Gov:
Jeb quietly goes to the rescue of a 2-year-old
Golf Links Bush, Boy [Jeb shares his views, and golf, with autistic teen]
(3) For those of you who are new, and shocked that the governor of the 4th largest state is ALWAYS interested in listening to the people he serves, check out these two articles:
Governor hears Polk County citizens' woes, both strange and sad [Jeb listens..whoa! What an earful!]
World Wide Jeb
(4) Finally, for those handful of posters who actually DOUBTED the JEB-emails I posted on two threads were NOT from him - well, you have missed half a dozen such threads over the years, and believe me, ALL those emails are from him.
And, I am not the only person he has written to over the years. In fact, as I recall, a number of those other people who've heard from him over the years posted here, on this thread I started less than 1 day after Election Day 2002, when Gov Bush was re-elected in a landslide (and made history as FL's first GOP gov to win a 2nd term):
HEY! Q: Guess who took the time to write a special thank-you note to FR posters? A: JEB BUSH!
OK, mini-lesson over!
Now -- if you have something NICE and POSITIVE to say to FL's Favorite Governor (such as: "THANK YOU"), then please do reply on this thread. My own thank you to Gov Bush is posted in my reply #1 below.
Have a BEAUTIFUL DAY!

And you did ~ thank God, and thank you, Governor Bush ~

Dear Governor Bush: Do not know what the future holds for Terrie, but take great comfort in knowing that she is safer now; and all the people of this great country have been lifted up to higher Moral ground thanks to your determined efforts to ensure that Justice will not be compromised by Judicial arrogance and expedience.
Thank you, and a special thanks to your Mother and Father! How they have gifted America. Sincerely, 'Cricket' @FR

Dear Governor Bush,
I am from the Schwarzenegger state, but I wanted to commend you for making a very wise legal ruling for the freedom to live even if one is very ill and incapacitated. If there is no written legal instruction, no verbal account should be enough to remove care and feeding from an injured or ill person. We are not speaking of removing artificial life support to let someone whose time has come pass on. We are talking about withholding fluids from a poor living being who cannot drink without help.
The emotional nature of this Schiavo case was overwhelming to any caring person, but besides this, there is a serious legal/ethical problem here, with only one solution leading toward protection of the right to live. The injured and incapacitated, even if they cannot speak, experience pleasure and have as much right to the pursuit of happiness as the outspoken guy speeding along in his Porsche with his fine cigar by his side. Our Constitution was meant to protect our most basic rights.
You have taken a great step in the only right direction. I cannot pay you back politically at this time but I would vote for you should you ever go for a national office. I won't ever forget your work on this behalf.
Yours,
Yaelle

Dear Governor Bush:
I am at a loss of words, emotion has taken hold of me. Instead, let me say this,
And Jesus turned to those on his right and said "Come. You have my Father's blessing! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you comforted me, in prison and you came to visit me. Then the just will ask him: 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or see you thirsty and give you drink? When did we welcome you away from home or clothe you in your nakedness? When did we visit you when you were ill or in prison. The king will answer them: 'I assure you, as often as you did it for one of my least brothers, you did it for me"
Governor Bush, this is all that matters. You gave Terri food, drink, visited her in her prison, comforted her in her illness.
God bless you. You're doing the Lord's work!

Governor Jeb Bush:
Thank you for your intervention. I, myself, became aware of this case a short while ago. Right away, there were discrepancies that aroused my suspicions. It was like peeling back the layers of an onion; the more layers I peeled away, the more I wanted to cry. I hope the next step is for the parties involved to be investigated, a neutral guardian appointed and long neglected therapy started. God bless you and others who were instrumental in bringing this moment to pass.

Governor Bush
What impressed me the most about you, is that you honestly listened to the people. It takes me back to the time when it really was a government of the people, for the people. In this day, that is one thing the elected have forgotten, it is as if the only time we are listened to is when they want elected, or money.
Thank you

Dear Governor Bush,
We are all an accident or medical event away from being in the same condition as Terri Schindler-Schiavo. Optimally, we have written instructions for our caregivers and there can be no doubt for them or the courts to know the heroic extent to which they may go to prolong and extend our lives. Terri had no such document that conveyed control of her care to a person she trusted.
Thank God, we in Florida have a Governor who can be trusted to make difficult decisions favoring life. Thank you for all you've done to make Florida a more secure place for the vulnerable among us.
By the way, Amazon notified me that your mother's book was shipped to me yesterday. I fully expect to read where she describes instructing you and President Bush in the employment of 'strategery'. :)

Governor Bush:
You are a man of honor in an age where that quality has become too rare. Should you decide to run, you have my vote for President in 2008.
Thank you for taking a stand for what's right.
