Roadside bomb explodes in Baghdad
Tuesday, October 21, 2003
(10-21) 21:45 PDT BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) --
A roadside bomb exploded Wednesday in a tunnel in the heart of the Iraqi capital as a U.S. military convoy passed by, residents said. They said it appeared two soldiers were slightly injured
The blast, which could be heard in a wide area in the center of the city, occurred about 6:45 a.m. after three U.S. Army Humvees entered the tunnel at Tehran Square, the witnesses said.
Witnesses Laith Abed Ali, 35, and Walid Jabbar, 27, said they saw lightly wounded Americans walk out of the tunnel shortly after the blast.
U.S. troops rushed to the area.

Reuters report...
Baghdad Road Bomb Wounds Two U.S. Soldiers
Wed October 22, 2003 12:51 AM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A road bomb in central Baghdad exploded at dawn on Wednesday, slightly wounding two U.S. soldiers on patrol, a U.S. army spokesman said.
The blast took place in a central Baghdad highway tunnel about 6:40 a.m. (11:40 p.m. EDT) and struck a passing Humvee vehicle, said Captain Tommy Leslie of the 1st Armored Division.
"It was most likely one of those IEDs (improvised explosive device)," Leslie told Reuters. "Our estimation is that it was in place" in the highway tunnel before the patrol entered the tunnel.
He said "a couple" of soldiers in the vehicle were lightly wounded and would return to duty.
