I want to say that we need to pray that Terri's tortured body can recover from this ghastly week, that she no longer needs to endure her "replacement's" pregnant presence at her bedside, and that we can look forward to her recovery as much as possible since she'll now get the therapies she need. We must be vigilant as the evil side will try again and again to get her back in their deathcamp.

Terri has a foundation (someone said) and anyone with the means who wants to do something concrete for her now should donate. That way the family can decide best what is needed for her care and comfort, as she becomes able. They also probably have huge bills and expenses and lost wages. If you can, help. If you can't, content yourself to email the people who helped her to thank them.

Teddy bears and such aren't welcome in the ICU and the family may not have a place to keep them. Just my two cents. I understand the impulse for a personal gesture! Terri won't be up to knowing about such things for awhile, so save it; prayers that someday she WILL be up to writing a thank you note or going to Wal-mart are very much in order. She will benefit even if she doesn't know.

Her family knows what we did.

I also wanted to say that there are 50 states in the union and this kind of thing happens in all or most of them. We need to make sure our state government knows that we are not going to put up with people being starved and dehydrated against their explicit wishes. It's just not going to happen to human beings in the USA; it's not supposed to happen to DOGS. So please don't collapse with relief until you know that there is no Terri in your state whose story you won't hear. This is not a rare thing. What is rare is that we heard about it and changed the course of it.

But I've known people who were terminally ill, and either committed suicide or had a doctor help them medicate themselves to death. I think the common denominator is value of life. I believe that Terri Schiavo's case has been handled correctly, the legislature and Bush have acted appropriately. They will next determine what her physical condition truly is. I don't believe this case has ended, and I expect there to be even more lawsuits coming from Michael. In the meantime, we all have much to be grateful for... but this doesn't erase the fact that she should have had a DNR. Absent that, all of the different scenarios come into play.

The Attorney General, I presume... or the IRS?

I don't know how much autonomous authority the AG would have if Judge Greer claims the books are fine. IRS probably could, but I don't see why.

But a guardian ad litem would have clear authority to demand an audit (that's part of his job). And I don't think Judge Greer's declaring the books are find would fly before an appeals court.

RC, I was typing in the dark at the Vigil on a laptop. In the body of what I sent you, I meant Terri is NOW BEING RE-HYDRATED. If I accidentally typed NOT in the dark, oops.

Everybody, Terri is being taken care of at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. We hope tomorrow she'll have surgery to restore the port for the feeding tube.

I've seen it, and I am certain the AG is aware of it, too. I just wonder how much concrete evidence there is of abuse. Isn't there a statute of limitations? Murder is much harder to prove.

It does not serve any purpose to call anyone an idiot, even if they are an idiot. truelady's comment may have been witty but it also implies that Jorge is childish or infantile. That may or may not be true, but conservatives and those interested in defending the sanctity of life should always engage the topic or an opponent with facts and logic. Particularly in a matter such as this, it requires a level of maturity and respect.

Isn't there a media celeb medical "ethicist" from Harvard(?) who has advocated executing infants under the age of six months who show signs of "imperfection"?

Peter Singer from Princeton is actually the Prince of Death and I believe he has expanded the window a bit more.

Emergency motion
in right-to-die case
Family seeks delay of ruling on removal of woman's feeding tube

The attorney fighting a husband's efforts to remove the feeding tube from his brain-damaged wife filed an emergency motion yesterday to delay a court ruling while she develops new medical evidence.

The report of a total-body bone scan done on Terri Schindler-Schiavo, while she was in a rehabilitation facility following the collapse that led to her brain damage, describes what are known as "hot spots" suggestive of multiple fractures. In the words of an unnamed physician who reviewed the report: "Somebody worked her over real good."

According to the motion, medical records show that Terri has never been evaluated or treated by an orthopedic surgeon for the multiple injuries revealed in the bone scan, which may have a profound bearing on her current medical condition.

I saw that. Thanks Qwinn. Been trying to keep others updated via email as well.

I know I will sleep better tonight now. Here's hoping Michael Schiavo doesn't.

No, big difference. In one instance you are providing supportive care and no intervention as death approaches naturally. In the other case you are actively causing death with an overdose of morphine. Too much morphine and your patient stops breathing. You killed him. We get in trouble for that :-/

It does get complicated and the lines do seem to blur. It is difficult not to want to help in any way. You always have to focus on the end result. Are you prolonging life or prolonging death? But, active killing is not the answer.

Pete Singer, Princeton.

Got it. I knew it was an Ivy League school. Amazing he's still teaching human beings.

MICKIE WROTE: "Divorce proceedings should be started immediately!"

Since she is Catholic, maybe ANULMENT (sp?) would be sufficient---and QUICKER. Anybody know if she could just get an anulment or if she would need both?

Amen, people got involved, called upon GOd AND called upon their reps in great numbers and with great passion. This should should serve as an example to all. about how we win.

THIS was another example...same methods produced success.

Jorge is childish and infantile. Children are wont to repeat the same lies over and over agin in order to direct attention there way.

There is no disgrace in speaking the truth and no reason to ban it from FR. He's entitled to continue in that vein but he is no more immune to criticism than the lying left is.
