UPDATES FROM TERRI'S VIGIL - 10/21 - FREEPER THANKS

Good news, hopeful news, and call-to-action...

10/21/2003 2:57:09 AM

Sonya and I returned to the vigil for Terri today.  The mood is very hopeful.  As it is early in the morning, however, I apologize in advance for any typos as well as the disjointed posting of my thoughts...

1)  From what the nurses participating in vigil told me, barring a miracle (and there have been many in this case) Terri's vital organs are now in the process of shutting down due to poisoning from the toxins in her body.  In the normal course of events, irreversable damage will have been done to her kidneys for example.

2) Prayers are still very much needed.  I would suggest in this order of importance: a) For Terri and her family, b) for Monsignor who is trying to provide for her spiritual needs, c) for Jeb Bush and the Florida senate, d) for Chris Ferrara, Pat Anderson and the rest of Terri's legal team, e) for the conversion of Mike Schiavo, attorney George Felos and Judge Greer -- the unholy trinity of the culture of death.

3) As Fr. Rob Johansen reported, he's received his bishop's permission to accept Monsignor's invitation to come down and assist Terri's friends and family.  Monsignor is eighty years old, but like any good priest and former military officer, he keeps soldiering on at the vigil.  Nevertheless, he is really looking forward to having another priest there full-time, particularly a young priest like Fr. Rob.  The two of them have been in touch, and everything is now arranged for Fr. Rob's stay.  Again, thank-you to everyone at St. Blog for coming through.

4) Terri's father was in tears when he found out that not only has St. Blog, the Alhambra and Freepers found him a replacement Rosary with the papal blessing, but there are enough on overnight for each member of his family.  Thanks to everyone who responded to this call with such generosity.

5)  I was there when we got news that Jim King, the head of the Florida State Senate, was going to allow the bill to go to the floor for a vote.  My friend George, a pro-life civil attorney who has been at the vigil practically everyday, said that this was extremely hopeful.  Again, thanks to everyone who responded to the blog call to phone and email King.  Keep it up until the bill passes.

6) Start emailing John Aschcroft as well as the Florida State Attorney.  Whether or not Terri survives, and we all hope and pray that she will, we need an investigation of the possible abuse she may have suffered.  Right now, Michael Schiavo has reportedly ordered that upon her death she be cremated without an autopsy.  We cannot allow this to happen.  If someone could please post the email addresses and the phone numbers of these two Attorney General's offices in the comments section and on your blog site, it would be greatly appreciated.

7) Speaking of action, there was enough of a popular outcry today to overwhelm and shut down both the phone lines and the email server of the Florida state legislature.  This happened because everyone took the time to phone and email.  Please keep doing so.

8) Looking back, although we're far from being out in the clear right now, I get the sense what we are seeing is a genuine grass roots movement among those who support the culture of life.  The mainstream secular media dropped the ball on this long ago by shilling for the culture of death.  So what has taken over is the blog sites, email discussion groups, message boards and cell phones.  In ingnoring this story except to occasionally stump for the culture of death, the mainstream media has basically forfeited a large measure of its credibility and influence to the new media.

8) Through the intervention of numerous saints and some pro-life political activists, I ended up on the cell phone at some point major Repulican policy wonk in Washington if I am not mistaken.  I directed him to the statement below from certain members of the Catholic media, and strongly suggested he print off a copy and discuss the issue with whoever is now in charge of the Republican's outreach to Catholic voters  Basically, if Republicans wish to continue making inroads among the Catholic vote, he needs to take a good look at it.

On this note, please continue to pray for Terry and her family, as wel as the legal team and Governor Bush (along with the state senate.).

Haven't heard any ruckus made by the Catholic church.

You haven't heard .... from the usual liberal media, you mean. On the contrary, the catholics have been instrumental in leading the charge to save Terri's life.

The Thomas More Society LINK , showed the governor how to intervene and call a special session.

Across the fruited plains, catholic blogs have organized to keep an information network going to provide support to the family. The author of this article, Pete Vere is a canon lawyer who, as you can see, is actively involved in assisting the Schindler family. You can learn more about him and the others here:

Fr. Rob Johanson headed to Terri's Vigil in St. Petersburg

We all must keep on praying for Terri! She needs to get through a few more hours. Once this bill passes the Senate, the governor can sign it and her tube can be restored. God bless!

Thanks for all you are doing on behalf of Terri and for keeping us all up to date.

Why can't the darned Senate vote on Terri's bill NOW instead of tonight. Seems to me that every hour counts. Are they hoping to prolong the vote until she has no chance at all of surviving?

The abuses and maltreatment of Terri is criminal. If she dies I hope that many rotten heads will roll.

Could some clarify for me -- the House passed the Bill last night; and just passed in the Senate? I'm confused because I thought I read that the Senate would not be convening until 6:45 PM? Is the Bill ready for Jeb's signature???

Whatever is correct, PLEASE continue to pray for Terri!!!

We are all very frustrated, and anxious. Use your energy in a positive way by praying for Terri. The Florida State Senate has gotten the bill through the committee, but won't have a full vote until tonight at 6:45. Time is of the essence here. Please email the following Florida state senators and urge them to push this through faster:

I have an intellectual problem. Michael Schiavo is married to one woman and engaged to another. Wouldn't that make him a sesquigamist, with one and a half wives?

It is now 3:55 p.m. CST. Johnnie Byrd, Speaker of the House, just told Sean Hannity that Gov. Bush has signed the bill to reinsert the feeding tube. Is it necessary to wait for a Senate vote or can the tube be inserted NOW?

I'm so deep in prayer for Terri. After working hospice for 3 years, I can't understand hospices involvement in this case at all. I'm dumfounded and heartbroken. How could they even take Terri's case unless she had a terminal illness? This is a case of "forced" terminal illness. I just don't get this. How "ethical" is this for hospice?

Praying for Terri..and praying that there hasn't been even MORE damage done to this poor woman who is an obvious victim.

God protect her. And if her husband has managed to murder her He WILL judge him. If the man does not become judged on this earth, he will not escape judgement.

But the bigger question is, what have we become as a nation when we looked at Terri saw this level of cognition, and still allowed this to go on?

I used to think hospice were angels of mercy now this hospice appears to have turned to the dark side. They are not supposed to assist in killing anyone in anyway. There should be a investigation into how Michael Schiavo's attorney used his position to get her admitted. It doesn't matter that he resigned as head of the board right before he had her admitted...it is still a conflict of interest.

Exactly. This nation is pre-Nazi Germany all over again. I pray we all grab the momentum of today and run with it!

I can't begin to count the many AP articles about Terri where subtle phrasing was used to convey the idea that Terri should be "allowed" to die, or "let" die.

I know. I want to grab them and say brightly, "Say, you know this works on 6 month old babies too! Really! You just withhold food long enough and they die! Sure, heck, try it at home!"

"In television, sex sells"

I guess it depends on who's buying. I'm so sick of it I've turned it off altogether. I could care less what Kobe is doing or with whom. In the end, whatever the verdict is on Kobe, it isn't going to make any difference one way or the other beyond the immediate situation. I stay much better informed of the things that really matter right here. Terri's is a story the outcome of which has serious repercussions for all of us.

You're right, of course. But the Kobe Bryant case is being sold to those who live on Hollywood gossip... I suspect they outnumber the civically-minded Freepers, however large we may be in number.

I also avoid much of the tabloid news. I cannot remember the last time I tuned in to watch Rita Cosby or Greta VanSusteren blab about Bryant or the Peterson case.
