We are gathering signatures for the Florida Home Democracy Petition that will be placed on the ballot November, 2004 regarding development and comprehensive land use plans.

We got over a thousnad signatures and are holding a press conference on Thursday, 2 PM at The Elizabeth House (next to the Main Beach Parking Lot) You are welcome for sure. We just got this planned and sent invitations to the press I believe Friday and county commissioners.

Also, the lawsuit to reverse the referenda 75% of the voters passed last November was dismissed twice, the second appeal is Dec. 4. You are also welcome to attend if you would like. Let me know and I'll get you the details. The city is being sued but the city attorney is not defending the referenda. This commission wants it overturned, they hate the fact that the people now have more say in what goes on at the beach. We may be encountering some legal costs if we have to get expert witnesses and depositions.....our lawyer is pro bono, but these things will cost.

You can go to www.deerfieldbeachusa.com for information on all the current issues including the bond issue for this November.

I'm sure you are reading that the Original Save Our Beach support it. Truth is that the original bond included using the money to build the garage and we were caught between a rock and a hard place. We agreed not to campaign against the bonds if they removed the garage on the main beach parking lot. We did not have time for an all out campaign against the bond, as most of our core members were still on holiday or up North. You can read about the bond on that same web site and make up your own mind as to whether this city should borrow more money.

The city also recently borrowed at least 7 million agains the CRA (TIF funds that didn't need a voter approval.

The non profit Original Save Our Beach, Inc. has a web site now

originalsaveourbeach.org

Good hearing from you.

Marti

Note: Voters have passed two referendums involving over development of the Beachfront in Deerfield Beach with 75% approval from the residents. There is good reason to support these referendums. Increased traffic on the barier island can not be suported by infrastucture and the reduced building codes in FL, this development would follow could place an increased burden on the federal flood insurance.

A small group of developers has challenged these referendums in court and have had their case thrown out twice. Now the City Commissioners of Deerfield Beach say they don't want to defend the city against these laws suits in the third court challenge by the developers. The Original OSOB has to supply their own lawyer to defend the developers challenge.

The City Manager, Larry Deetjen: an under achieving bureaucrat who has allowed more industry to leave our city than he has brought here is in the pocket of the developers and his realtor wife has her face painted on almost every bus bench in the city showing a definite conflict of interest.

It has been mentioned Deetjen previously ruined a small town in MI by placing to much emphisis on tourism while ignoring industry that supports infrastructure. He is a graduate from York Community High School in Elmhurst IL. It would be interesting to find out if anyone can supply a history of this individuals past failures.

Most of the crap the City Commisioners pull off is done duiring the summer months when our snow birds are absent and their shananigans can go unnoticed by the majority.

Hopefully this sleepy little seaside town is beginning to wake up and preparing to get rid of our majority Democrat city commission.

The two websites that address Deerfield residents and are not supported by advertising dollars from the Chamber of Commerce are...

If you are a resident of this area in Southeast Florida these sites can provide you with relevant information you won't find anywhere else.

I'll be attending this event this afternoon.

If anyone has concerns about this ammendment, I would appreciate the oppotunity, if given the chance to voice them at the press confference.

Sincerely Matthew

My main concern follows........

Ignorance will always be a majority as we saw in the last election when the uninformed majority gave breakfast meats human rights over the farmers right to run his business efficently eliminating the pork industry in the State.

What in this ammendment prevents the ignorance of the Ft lauderdale urban voter from overwelming the interests of the smaller town voters here in Deerfield Beach?
