[history]
October 21, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - In the wake of the deadly Staten Island Ferry crash last week, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer - who frequently call for government investigations into all sorts of matters - have said little of substance about the accident. Political observers in Washington note that could be because Schumer is in a delicate position since his wife, Iris Weinshall, is commissioner of the city Department of Transportation, which oversees the ferries.

Both Schumer and Clinton have offered condolences to the victims' families and are working to secure money to rebuild the ferry and terminalHow about rebuilding the shattered lives this "accident" ripped apart? I think I heard in an early report that the Captain may have blacked out and was on blood pressure medication. And where was his backup?
Shillary and her marionette are too busy smearing conservatives and trying to make our Constitution into Silly Putty. They can't be bothered by the petty stuff. /sarcasm

Nothing is 'too local' when a TV camera is available for Hillary's or Chuck. . .and for sure they are self-obsessed; and Chuck's wife being close to this surely does not serve well the miserable 'selves' of either of them.

If that had been the case, both senators would have thrown Schumer's wife to the dogs.

As with many congressidiots these days, these two don't seem to have a clue why they're in Washington anyway. They should be looking after the interests of their State on a national level, not sticking their noses into every little thing that pops up back in the 'hood. That's why New Yorkers pay those legions of bureaucrats and others who suck off of the public teat; let them handle such things.

Schumer is in a delicate position since his wife, Iris Weinshall, is commissioner of the city Department of Transportation, which oversees the ferries. Did I miss this tidbit on the news and in the NYT?
To: kattracks
Give 'em time. They're still working on the angle.
To: hotpotato
heard the captain got his job back after previous "mishaps" piloting the ferry because of pressure by his union,, the democrats couldn't have negative publicity of the unions could they?,,,,

I've heard that a rattlesnake is most dangerous when it is silent.
To: kattracks
I continue to be grateful for the NY Post! It sure does reveal a lot of things the NYT seems to miss.

Doesn't everyone know, that the ferry accident was George Bush's fault!!! *sarcasm off*
Schumer's spokesman said that his wife's city position played had nothing to do with Schumer's response.ROTFLMAO!!!

The building in Chicago that caught fire was also administered by politically-connected people. After a $20 million renovation, it STILL didn't have a sprinkler system.
