I think we are closer than anyone imagines. Right now that could ammount to the Dred Scott desision of a CWII is now taking place in Florida. There may be many of their issues that may make the LEFT heat up the war but there are only TWO that I see inflaming the RIGHT to war like levels. These are "gun control" finally reaching its goal of a full ban on firearms and legal INVOLUNTARY euthanasia being added to abortion in the attack on the sanctity of life by the left. The case in Florida involves a brain damaged woman named Terri Schiavo that has received great publicity lately here on Free Republic. Her huspand Michael intends to euthanise her by removing her feeding tube even though there is NO LIVING WILL allowing for this. This whole case points up another difference between the Right and the Left that is becomming increasingly "hot" now.

The RIGHT believes in a GOD GIVEN SANCTITY to human life that only allows its taking by Biblicaly mandated capital punishment for heinous crime, self defense against having a heinous crime committed on ones person, just (defensive) war or by GOD Himself at its own mandated end.
The left believes that humans are only animals and that human life can be taken right up to the last moments of the birth process (partial birth abortion) or when it loses its "quality" by being put in a "vegitative state" (euthanasia).

If Terri Schiavo's euthanasia is indeed involuntary and being done by as painfull a process as its opponants say starvation-dehydration is to anyone with any consusness at all this case could indeed lead to a Dred Scott descision that dehumanises the disabled the way the original dehumanized Blacks. Millions of euthaniasias of this type in the way we now have millions of abortions would certainly inflame the right into bringing out the rifles and the confederate flags again.

I agree. I have followed the Terry Schiavo threads with great attention, anger, and sorrow. I am planning a longer post, partly to kick sygmalion's butt, and prove him/her/it wrong, and partly to prove my point that the schism is really between those who accept the reality of moral absolutes, and those who worship their own minds. As Ann Coulter said at the end of "Treason", the difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives see that man is made in the image of God, and liberals think they *are* God.
