I agree 100% with Prager, and I call the phase we are in "THE COLD CIVIL WAR." See also the checklist offered in Civil War II "The Comming Breakup of America" A Checklist, by Thomas W. Chittum and see what you think. Though Prager and Chittum have differing styles and are noting different indicators, their vision is remarkably similar...and unsettling.
What could turn the Cold Civil War hot? What happened in Florida in the 2000 election was a harbinger of things to come.
I'm guessing you might know a little of what was planned in the event Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton's threatened riots unless Gore was installed as President were to take place. I had a very tiny role in some of the contingency planning, which was carried out via couriers- there was not a single telephone call or e-mail message made, so far as I'm aware.
But I'm guessing that an economic crisis/crash would do it too. A rise in the cost of gas to $3/gallon would probably do it after the resulting increases in food and other necessities began to be felt, and a repeat of the Wall Street Crash of 1929 or anything similar that shuts down the ATM machines would likely do it. I've got some references for you on that too, Travis.
BTW, I've added you to the *CWII Pilgrims* list. Totally without authorization!

So far it's been a non-shooting war ... so far Maybe. Maybe not.

BTW, Melas, I think Prager got the "Left cares more about health" bit because polls show it is indeed true (well, as far as you believe polls - and this one I do believe). I can understand your confusion though. He should have said "The Left cares more about health than ethical behavior, the Right cares more about ethical behavior than health." I would agree with that, actually. And I would agree that I would be more disappointed if my daughter cheated on a test than if she smoked. Both are just as likely, IMHO, to form a life-long habit.

Massive political disagrement is NOT a civil war! War, by definition, involves the use of arms to achieve what poltical means have failed to. A civil war means two sides that disagree have decided to forgo elections and use the weapons of war to settle their differences. Yes. Tanks in the streets. And churches.

I wonder if there is another mention of the term "Cold Civil War" before here? If not, I stake my claim to it!
Chittum and Prager are on the same page, having arrived from different places.
The ways the Cold Civil War could turn hot are numerous! Economic collapse could trigger it, and that collapse could be precipitated by a smallpox or mass anthrax attack, a nuke, a cyber attack, a new Operation Bojinka, a campaign of mass arsons of forests...
I could go on all night with the ways our enemies could wreck our economy, throwing the country into civil disorder.

When there is a "rash" of mysterious deaths (assasinations) of public figures ... judges, politicians, political advocates of either side. I will know then that the shooting war has started

If the conservative leaders don't start fighting, then I suspect someone will eventually start a shooting war. Perhaps from a conservative state, or a large militia movement.
To: ItsTheMediaStupid
I think that one think that would start a massive shooting war would be the appearance of "blue helmets" enmass on our soil. Another might be the sudden elimination (or attempt) of the 2nd amendment. Either one could cause the military to attempt a coup
