Ouch...PBS just got bitch slapped by Television Week.
I don't have my PBS/NPR ping list so I'll just one-time ping people from the last several NPR/PBS threads.

It's probably a bad time around here to recommend a mercy killing, but pull the plug.

Good. Nobody wants to hear liberal whining anway. Stop publically funding this junk. Why pay for hate America propaganda?
PBS is useless garbage.

PBS refuses to give us access - we are on DirecTV and are grandfathered to east and west coast feeds.
It was their decision, not ours. Oh well.

I'll say it. I really enjoyed the PBS "Mystery!" series, especially their adaptations of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie.
That said, everything else they produce sucks.

Didn't they used to show episodes of Monty Python, Benny Hill,The Goodies, Dr.Who, Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Universe. etc., etc. ?
Guess that's why I haven't watched them for over a decade.

I love reading of liberals, rearranging the deck chairs while the ship is sinking.
Speaking from a strictly content point of view, PBS's broadcasting of cultural programs isn't enough to counterbalance their broadcasting of liberal crapola.

I think a rich liberal (probably heiress) is going to leave a huge chunka-change to PBS (like the Eli-Lilly heiress did to Poetry Magazine). Old arts never die, they just turn political and get rich sponsors.

I grew up learning a lot from Sesame Street, Electric Company, and Zoom. But there's no reason they can't pay for themselves.

This could be dangerous, look for Democrats to get a hold of those 300+ stations for their own news network or liberal network IMO!~

Mystery! is the only PBS show that I still consistently watch. Yet it's been banished the last two years to the late summer months.
It's time to end PBS and save federal, state and local taxpayers a billion or so in wasted spending. Cable will pick up the shows that actually have an audience. Heck, Bill Moyers will probably con Eisner or some other lefty into funding him also.

The Democrats already hold PBS in spirit. If they got hold of it in reality, they'd only drive the ratings down even more. *g*

They would have an airwave set of networks that don't require cable or a dish to receive. This would be the pits for them to achieve.

especially their adaptations of Sherlock Holmes Me too. Except, the guy who played Holmes (Jeremy something?) struck me as effeminate. A.Conan Doyle's Holmes was nothing like that. In fact, Doyle's illustrator for the Strand Magazine made Holmes much better looking than Doyle intended.

The key question for PBS supporters:
Is Ken Burns really so lacking in talent that he would be unemployed without government subsidies?
