Fla. Lawmakers May Pass Tube-Feeding Law
October 20, 2003 07:17 PM EDT
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida lawmakers were moving Monday to consider intervening in the case of a severely brain-damaged woman whose feeding tube was removed last week by her husband's order.
The Florida House scheduled a Monday night session to take up the issue. In the Senate, President Jim King said he will propose legislation that would give Gov. Jeb Bush the authority to order the feeding tube be reinserted to keep Terri Schiavo alive.
The tube was removed Wednesday following a decade-long court battle between Schiavo's parents and their son-in-law, who contends that he is carrying out her wishes not to be kept alive artificially.
"If we are to err - because time is of the essence - for goodness sake let us err on the side of caution," said King, a Republican.
Schiavo has been in what doctors call a vegetative state since her heart stopped in 1990 from a suspected potassium imbalance.
Bush told parents Bob and Mary Schindler last week that his staff would search for legal ways to save their daughter's life, but said Monday they haven't yet found a way.
"The legal ways, the remedies, don't exist," Bush said Monday, before the possible legislative moves became apparent.
Bush added, "I wish I could wave the magic wand and resolve this but every effort that we've had or every effort that has been proposed has either been thwarted by the courts or would be inappropriate."
Meanwhile, in a statement released through his lawyer, husband Michael Schiavo said Monday that he, too, is grieving, but "I did what I believe Terri would have wanted me to do."

You may be right. I don't know anything about the mechanics/procedures of 'tube feeding'. I know they pulled the tube shortly after 2 pm last wednesday. Whether or not it is a continuous feed, I don't know.
Either way, it is a long, long time to be without water. Food...most of us can live for quite a while with out. It would probably do some of us some good. But we must have water frequently. In Terri's favor, she isn't out of the bed sweating very much, so maybe she can last longer than you or I. There is no doubt that she will suffer adverse consequenses even if they reconnect water right this minute.
Goodnight all.

Yes!1 Pray without ceasing.
Now, when you write your Senators, cut them off at the knees on the husband/wife thing. I didn't hear any of them mention the following, and this should be made very clear to them:
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

Even now. Nothing on Fox, Drudge, Lucianne.
I am feeling as if FR is the last place where sanity exists. This isn't something WE made up. It doesn't exist only here.
WHY IS NO ATTENTION BEING PAID?

Maybe Lord Voldemorte (grin) will get the flu and have to have his cases remanded to another court for a few weeks. Either that or the Senate can immediately begin impeachment proceedings against him (as soon as Terri's bill passes). Even if Terri dies in the middle of the night, the impeachment proceedings would still be a matter of urgency, because they would allow Terri's trust records to be subpoenaed. If Michael inherits the money, he would no longer be required to keep them.

I can't speak for the others but don't be too hard on Fox. It's not Terri. If it's after 5 or on weekends, forget it:') If it's a car chase in LA though you might get lucky.

A person can live without food for quite some time, usually for many weeks. The body will use its fat and protein stores (muscles) to help it survive.
If a person has a lot of fat stores (is very heavy), they will live longer than a person who has very little fat (very thin), so how long a person can survive
depends a lot of the person. Of course, if you go without food for a few weeks, you will be very weak since you have been using your own muscles for energy.
Water is a different story. A person will die within 3-4 days without water. The size of the person really doesn't make much difference.

Hopefully, this also opens up the subject of "pulling the plug"!!!
People in our country desperately NEED TO BE MADE AWARE of the implications of these options connected with living wills!!
Many are so SMUG, when they post "well, I /sarcasm have my living will already ready!!!"
And they have no clue as to WHAT they have signed, never gave a thought to exactly what all pulling the plug MEANS!!!
They DANGEROUSLY ASSUME that it means (mental picture) of mechanical apparatus!!, I'll bet if a survey were given, would prove my point.
Again, I warn MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOOD AND WATER,VS RESPIRATORS AND OTHER MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
And I DESPERATELY NEED TO VENT HERE::::::
AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF KOBE BRYANT REPORTS ON ALL MEDIA!!!!!

To: JustPiper
Jhn 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Jhn 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Parable, yes; but all things are possible with God.

How many do we need to vote yes in the senate? There are 26 Republicans and 14 democrats.
Not sure if this a 2/3 vote or not.

Those of us who have had the foresight to make living wills know well what we're doing. We have usually had to go through watching people die, and we've thought about what is right for us. We know the difference between respirators used on people with no brain activity, highly toxic and usually unsafe pain relief given to the terminal, and fluids and nutrition given to those in light comas. We are responsible for ourselves and this is a choice we should make for ourselves while we are cognitively able to do so, so our families won't be torn by this kind of strife.
I'm with you on the Kobe Bryant stuff, though.
