When does the Dem Party discover it is in a deep hole? And how do they exit? They entered the anti-war morass without an exit plan. I fear the Klintons know this and are waiting in the wing.

Protest candidates occasionally do win major party nominations. This is not a good thing, because if they articulate a consistent philosophy, it defines the party, even as they go down in flames.
If the Dems nominate Dean, I think there's about a 75% chance he'll go down like the Edmund Fitzgerald in a general election. However, the platform he lays out, defines his party for at least another 4 years. Do we really want one of our major parties defined by this nut-job's core set of principles?
I say "No Way!!!". Even if Joe LIEberman is tougher to beat or if John Heinz is tougher to ketchup to, both will articulate a less toxic philosophy and neither hates America with the intensity of Howard Dean.
