Protest candidates occasionally do win major party nominations. This is not a good thing, because if they articulate a consistent philosophy, it defines the party, even as they go down in flames.

If the Dems nominate Dean, I think there's about a 75% chance he'll go down like the Edmund Fitzgerald in a general election. However, the platform he lays out, defines his party for at least another 4 years. Do we really want one of our major parties defined by this nut-job's core set of principles?

I say "No Way!!!". Even if Joe LIEberman is tougher to beat or if John Heinz is tougher to ketchup to, both will articulate a less toxic philosophy and neither hates America with the intensity of Howard Dean.

What's the worst that can happen? Massive migration from the DNC to the Libertarians? Arkancide of Dean? Arkanside of McAuliffe in a faux coup? Its not like anyone is actually going to be corrupted anew, is it?
