So his 26 year old son has been making these remarkably similar sounding voice recordings of daddy for two years? The CIA has said they were authentic in the past and they must have some pretty good sound equipment laying around. President Bush seemed to believe it was him in interviews seen this morning.

My opinion is only from what I learn day to day, not what I believe "Must have happened". Did you read this thread from yesterday?

I'll believe he is dead when I see physical proof or lack of recordings after a military strike on his supposed location. :-)

Interesting. The story I remember reading was that their was a CIA agent outside the restaurant or in the vicinity and as the calls went up the chain to president Bush, a call was made to a bomber already in the air to attack. I also remember that one of his sons was waiting outside the restaurant in a car and that they had left prior to the bombing.

It's been fun. I wish he WAS dead and all our troops were home safe and sound. Goodnight.

Bin Laden's decision to hand over the operations of al-Qaeda is seen as an indication
that he is ill, the paper said.

Well, I guess if he has to let his son take over, that shoots any "wants to spend more
time with his families" boilerplate you see when a corporate hot-shot abruptly resigns.

No body, no martyr. Still, there is probably more ObL DNA as condensation nuclei in the backyard birdbath; than ObL DNA left in the Tora Bora caves.

That said, without a body, we can search for ObL indefinitely. ObL could even be...

...at the DNC convention!

The CIA "sources" named by journalists (read "professional bush haters") are always "unnamed" sources. I take that as either illusionary or from the bush-hating clique in the CIA -- it's clear the agency hasn't said "Osama is alive" in any official capacity.

And Bush is VERY careful to always be equivocal on the question of Osama -- i.e., "he may be alive or may be dead" and its easy to understand what's behind that position -- on the 1 in 1million chance that Osama IS alive, Bush would not want to give Osama the satisfaction of pulling a real appearance AFTER Bush officially claimed he was dead.

But he IS dead.

The CIA is not in the business of casually vetting tapes thay some Arab journalist (read conspirator and enabler) gets his hands on. Any such info you read about is a tip or a plant. Why they do this; what reason they do this and what is the accuracy of the tip is just a pure guess.

"But he IS dead"

Funny, I have to tried to state my beliefs on facts in this thread. You have gone from a belief to a conspiracy theory. So to sum it up: The cia can't detect voice patterns and the cia was Clintoon leftovers?

I don't know whether he is dead or not! The facts would suggest that he is not. What facts do you have that he IS dead? Because he was supposedly in the Torabora Mountain region when we bombed it? I don't want to argue this anymore, you believe what you want to believe and we will see how it all shakes out.

Conspiracy theory -- no. What I'm saying is that the science of voice recognition is, by admision of experts, not in any way an exact science -- compounded here by the source, i.w., scratchy cassettes that have been multiple times removed from the source tape. Familial resemblance can easily trick an investigator, especially under these circumstances. And we've all had the dual experiences of, on the one hand, hearing a voice from the past and instantly recognizing it, yet also calling a friend and, speaking to one of their children, mistake them for the friend -- so familial similarity, by one's own experience, is powerful.

So the claimants claim something that cannot be claimed. And the journalists could easily 'know' this, but they are of course intellectually incurious -- because they are interested in embarassing Bush and the Repubs. Or haven't you noticed the way that they assume that he is alive in their writings when normal prudence would require qulifying words.

My assertion that he is DEAD is based on the accumulation of negative evidence that he is alive. Being alive, by the way, is EASILY proven, as you know! Failure to prove it when it is in your interest to do so, over and over again, each time increases the likelihood, even at some point the certainty, that he is dead. That's not 'conspiracy', its a legitimate assumption upon evidence.
