I am about to finally leave the urban jungle of Los Angeles and move down to both Louisiana and South Carolina. While I do fish out here, I have only gone hunting a few times with borrowed equipment.
I am interested in starting to hunt, and would love for any freepers to give me recommendations on a good beginner rifle, something that isn't so pricey, but reliable, as well as any other gear that I will need as a beginner.
I am not a stranger to handguns, or to military rifles, I qualified expert on both a .45 and an M16, so I am not starting from scratch, but I am looking for a rifle for deer hunting basically that will not set me back too much money, yet still be a decent value. I plan to not spend that much money so it can be economical. I do know how to fabricate a carcass, and would love to hunt for meat, without the cost of hunting making it more expensive than going to the supermarket.
Any help in this regard, web sites, consumer reports, etc, would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out which one of your Demonrat Senators I hate the least. Boxer or Feinstein? Hmmmmm. Tough one. Freepers in Kaliforniastan need to take one of these trolls down. How about it Travis...how about running for the Senate?

"I know things grow big in Texas, but what the hell do you hunt with that cannon?." Actually, that gun is good for small to medium sized jackrabbits.
One shot usually does them in, but sometimes we get one that just won't fall and just keeps comin' with those teeth bared and claws rippin'!
Then we have to bring out the big stuff that I can't show you.
If I did the CIA would get to practice their wet work on you.

"I don't know your daughter'a age, but 6 ain't too early." Good job, old pard!
Your kids really love to shoot!
Warms the cockles of my heart!

I don't have one but I've been watching those Remington 710s come down in price since they came out 2 years ago or so. Started at $400 and that's with a scope.
I saw it with a rebate a few weeks ago for $279 bucks. That's got to be a steal for a 7mm deer rifle with a scope. Too bad my home refinance didn't finish up in time to free up the cash.

Yaller cards are outbound. Look next week, at the house.
BTW, I keep trying to post a thread about the movie "Runaway Jury", but it keeps jamming. When I preview or post, it keeps putting red letters up by "required fields" for the thread body, category, and title, even though they are filled out properly. What's up with that?
This is the movie review I'm trying to post, just to get a discussion going. "Runaway Jury: C-"

As to the posting issue I don't have a clue. Try a third time and if it won't work let me know and I will try to help.
I am a bit distracted. I am trying to master flying a R/C plane on a pc program. I know how to fly a real plane and can, but these R/C's are kicking my butt!!

That's one of my favorite's, too, Tom.
I'd like to get that original some day and have a print made at the photo shop.
I regret that I never taught my daughter to shoot like you did.
I sent her that picture and she wrote back and said, "What are you shooting at and why??"
Okay, she's blonde and lives in California. Nuff said.

"Whats really neat is when he calls in air strikes on stray dogs that bark in the night." What I'd really like to do with that damn dog is stick a MOAB where the sun don't shine!

"Are you still at 1313 Mocking Bird Lane???" No, I have to stay on the move.
This life as a secret agent ain't what it's cracked up to be.
Right now I'm living in a post office box, but I can't tell you which one.
