The Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group Judicial Watch has filed a motion of protection with the Florida Department of Children and Families that could give Gov. Jeb Bush a legal basis to order doctors to reattach Terri Schiavo's feeding tube. In a letter faxed to Bush's office Friday afternoon, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton wrote:
"Based on our formal complaint via the faxed report referenced above, you have the authority and sufficient cause to immediately order the Florida Department of Children and Family Services to intervene on behalf of Ms. Schiavo; to restore her nutrition; and to initiate a full investigation of the circumstances surrounding Ms. Schiavos disability."
The 39-year-old Schiavo has been brain-damaged since 1990, when she suffered what doctors say was a heart attack caused by an undetermined medical condition. But lawyers for her parents maintain that Schiavo's medical records indicate she suffered broken bones and neck injuries consistent with strangulation.
Judicial Watch said that Gov. Bush had an obligation to intervene based on protections afforded Ms. Schiavo "under the U.S. Constitution, the Florida Constitution (Art. 2, ' 5), as well as Fla. Stat. ' 825.102 and Fla. Stat. '' 782.04(2)(i), 77.04."
Her father, Robert Schindler, told Fox News on Thursday that if doctors administer morphine to ease her pain as she starves to death, Ms. Schiavo could be dead by Sunday.

This had occurred to me, too.
She is an adult, but she is not competent. She is married, so custody is at issue, but her parents want her saved, and that should be enough to at least hold things up, which is what is most needed now. Social workers often intervene when there is any slightest issue of a custody dispute.

Does Judicial Watch accept contributions?

Judicial Watch accepts contributions.
I joined JW in about 1997. They were instrumental in getting information about John Huang out in the open BEFORE the 1996 Presidential election. It was clear at that point to anyone who cared that, totally ignoring the sex-related stuff, the Clinton Admin had become corrupt to the core, even to the point of accepting foreign contributions for political campaigns.
After the election, IMHO, JW took on more and more issues, to the point where they became unfocused and weren't able to adequately pursue their cases. They did a lot of good things (exposing the existence of Gore's treasure trove of secret e-mails for one), but at some point they decided that being in front of the cameras was more important than actually delivering results. They gratuitously (IMHO) jumped into a lot of issues (Elian Gonzalez for one) and would grandiosely announce this, that, or the other legal filing, which would inevitably come to naught.
I stopped contributing in early 1999. If they still operate as they did then and you contribute, you can expect to be hounded to within an inch of your life with mailings and phone calls. Sending cash in an envelope with no return address directly to Tom Fitton might be the best strategy.
I don't question their honesty as much as their effectiveness.

Sending cash in an envelope with no return address directly to Tom Fitton might be the best strategy. And those who aren't comfortable sending it to Mr. Fitton can send it to me and I'll forward it to Judicial Watch on their behalf.
Cash only please. ;-)

"Does this mean that the Vatican has NOT weighed in on this?"
Oh please, they are too busy celebrating the Pope's 25th anniversary, looking the other way over child molestation scandals, and dissing the jews in favor of the palis.
And yes, I am a Catholic. I'm lapsed, but the Vatican is a disgrace.

Heheheheh.
As far as most folks can tell, that's about all they do. JW under Klayman (didn't he resign before tossing his hat in the FL Senate race ring?) had a decidedly poor track record. (and I'm being kind here.... :)

Have you gone to your parish priest in this matter? Maybe needs to start from the bottom up.

Oh please. Aren't you on their staff?

I don't think that lapsed Catholics have Parish priests. Aren't they tossed into a state, or Diocesan pool, much like those auto insurance pools for high-risk drivers? :)

I feel the same way as you. It's obvious to me he tried to kill her and is having the state finish the job. And some make noises about 'the law'. The law has been violated big-time. Do we think God gives a hoot about some vile law that says a husband can so cruelly murder his wife. I doubt it. He said a husband is to treat his wife as Christ loved the church. Christ DIED for the church, not the other way around. I keep thinking about the way she is being killed. I was not familiar with dehydration until this. But I am familiar with pruning trees. You can take a bright green branch, and cut if off from water, and in a few days, it turns into a dried out stick. I keep hoping.....Jesus said He is the fountain of life, he who drinks of Him will never thirst. Please Jesus, I am standing on Your promise.
