SANAA Oct 16 - A group of Islamic militants arrested over the last month in Yemen has confessed to planning attacks on U.S. and British embassies and had ties to al Qaeda, a senior Yemeni official said on Thursday.
Police seized ammunition and bomb-making manuals from the group of about 20 suspects who were from Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Syria, the official said, adding: ``It was like a laboratory.''
``They are believed to be an al Qaeda cell but they are regrouped under a new name - the Unitarian Brigade,'' he told Reuters. ``It seems their orders were coming from Afghanistan.''
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan or in Pakistan.
The Yemeni official said those arrested had confessed to plotting to attack the U.S. and British embassies and Western envoys.
He said the group received funds from a businessman in Saudi Arabia and that a Yemeni student had been arrested for carrying money from Saudi Arabia for the militants.
Yemen, bin Laden's ancestral home, is trying to rid itself of an image as a militant hotbed by working closely with the United States in its ``war on terror'' and rounding up suspects. - Reuters
Would be nice to know who this guy is...
We should treat this guy like the Mossad treated the Arabs who killed the Israeli Olympic team; two 22 cal. shells to the head some quiet night as he is heading home to dinner.
It would be a nice message to the rest of them.
