Couric Plays Up "Major Defeat" for W on Iraq Vote, Suggests Laura & Maria Better than Husbands
The Today Show
Posted on 10/17/2003 4:35:46 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
A relatively light news day, but that didn't stop The Today Show's Katie Couric from emphasizing the negative for President Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In both the news summary at the top of the show and in Couric's interview with Tim Russert, it was emphasized that yesterday's Senate vote, by which $10 billion of the $87 billion Iraq package would be converted to a loan, was a "major defeat" for the Bush administration.
Couric next stated that there was a "steady drumbeat" [hmm, could that be an insensitive stereotype, offensive to Native Americans? ;-)] of criticism of the the President's Iraq policy.
And what evidence does Katie offer in support of her "steady drumbeat" claim? Why, Senate floor footage of diving and swimming champion Edward Kennedy (D-Chappaquiddick).
Next, Katie surmised that, given Laura Bush's adroit handling of the odious Jacques Chirac in the famous hand-kissing incident, we might be seeing more of The First Lady on the campaign trail.
Russert agreed, suggesting that Laura would play an important role in the campaign, just as Maria Shriver had.
Of course Katie could not permit the interview to end on that upbeat note. She concluded with a gratuitious swipe at both the President and Arnold:
"Some would say that Laura and Maria would do a better job in office than their husbands!", throwing in a mandatory "just kidding" to preserve her pristine reputation for journalistic objectivity!

To watch Katie seeth with barely contained hatred for our president- priceless. Katie, go bake some cookies. You have 5 more years to learn to deal with your anger.

The first time through, I thought your tag line read "You may forget the one with whom you have laughed, but never the one with whom you have
slept!
Presumably that would also be true! ;-)

Couric, representing NBC:
"We (at now Democrat and French-dominated NBC) all hope and pray that Saddam escaped harm, and hopefully fled to Syria."

It's true that Katie didn't have much material to work with this morning, but somehow managed to find the cloud on W's silver lining.
In preparation for the coming election, and the prospect of monitoring Katie's glorification of the Dem nominee and vilification of W, I've begun stockpiling a major arms cache of Nexium.

Who is this Katie Couric person anyhow?
To: badmrbunny
I wounder if the real source of her anger is a lovers spat with crusty?

"Some would say that..." This is Katie and Matt's copout line they use when they really mean to say "I believe..." That is why the Today Show is so surreal. The hosts PRETEND they have no political opinions (although they are both liberals) and end up chatting about non-controversial stuff although they both not-too-subtly push their liberal biases during their interviews. That is why Fox & Friends is a much more interesting show. The hosts freely give their political opinions.

Kennedy, "lies, lies, lies." That's right, all we've heard from Kennedy is lies. More and more lately with all his over the top rants, I'm thinking the man must be having mental problems. Seriously. There's something (more so than ever) medically wrong with the man.
To: Tijeras_Slim
Great point. I remember during the '00 campaign W constantly mentioning having married above his station.

Meanwhile, the dimowits and their leftist media fan club don't have much to say about the 15-0 vote in the UN. Cause if they did, they'd be forced to call it a stunning victory for President Bush.
