Germans Lap Up Claim That US Plotted Sept 11

Germans lap up claim that US plotted Sept 11

By Kate Connolly in Bonn
(Filed: 17/10/2003)

A former cabinet minister is drawing huge crowds and stoking the fires of anti-Americanism in Germany with a book arguing that the US government mounted the Sept 11 attacks as part of a plot to win global domination.

Andreas von Bülow has gone even further than Michael Meacher, Britain's former environment minister, who claims the US knowingly failed to prevent the attacks.

Von Bülow, 66, believes that Sept 11 was staged to justify the subsequent wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.

"If what I say is right, the whole US government should end up behind bars," he says.

The German government has made no official response to the book, although ministers have tried to distance themselves from his views.

But von Bülow's ideas are very popular and polls show a fifth of Germans believe Washington ordered the attacks.

The CIA and September 11, written mainly from internet research, is a besteller, with sales of more than 100,000.

Deterrence works, Mr Chamberlin from Duesseldorf?
Come on.
I do believe that there will be a revolution in the European theater. With this silly constitution, it will happen sooner than later. The aristocrats who will be appointed rather than elected will rule from the top down. The taxes and the restrictive laws the EU will impose makes certain that unrest will occur.
As far as Germany becoming a nuclear nation, forget about it. The french will do that for them. Just like Germany shutting down their nuclear reactors, while encouraging other countries to build them and Germany will buy inexpensive electricity.
The Worlds leading exporter? For now. Haven't you seen the trend lines? What made Germany such a strong exporter? The US opened the market by artificially giving an exchange rate of 4.2 to 1 in order for German manufacturing to take off.
Just a little wake up call. That is over now . We are not supporting the dollar anymore(for now), Germany with it's high unemployment, bankrupt social system, non- existing growth rates, will fall sharply in the World market. German made goods can't compete anymore. They have become too expensive. The Government is impotent as far as tackling the problems are concerned.
etc., etc.

Then again 70% of Americans believe Saddam was behind 9/11, just because administration speech writers have been good at fabricating sentences with misleading connections, without "actually" lying.
We have a *load of people here who gladly will post their vast collection of worthless links proving an al-Qaeda-Saddam conspiracy, or how Saddam's WMDs are *really* in Syria, or Lebanon alternatively. People tend to believe, what they want to believe.

I hate to say it, but as a whole Germans have the upper hand here. At least they try to think for themselves.

Note that I´m a Hamburger, since 6 months now. And I will not answer to the rest of your unprecise, far off topic post.

There are people who say that the glass is half-full, and some who say the glass is half-empty. Choose on your own which group you belong to!

Is the belief in Germany that we have to keep bases there to keep that promice? Just trying to understand.

Uhhm. I don´t know. I´m not the average-informed citizen, I´m a bit more familiar to the military branch.

But I would say that the vast majority of people here will understand a massive pullout of US forces (since our government reduces number of soldiers and bases, too). From what I have heard, some bases (in particular Ramstein) will be kept. It is not unfavourable to have strategic bases for air supply/air attack.

Actually, we have talked about these themes several times before. I consider your post to be another rant, addressed to me because I´m the available German here. ;-)
You are angry about what has come out from the country your mother lives in, and I understand that anger. You did not intend any offense.

im getting a little tired of seeing german stuff here but cant pass it by..as a second generation american i thank God im not german or any thing else other than an american.my family migrated here in 2 shifts if you will..before WWII and shortly after..we still have relatives in germany but as far as most of us here are concerned we have zero in common with the German side of the family due to their attitudes towards america...most( but not all)of my family memebers in germany are extremely anti american , as most germans are..and im sure they believe anything regarding the bad americans...the surge in the new SS there and almost a complete police state should wake the USA up...it is my firm belief we are heading to war with some in europe..this isnt wishful thinking but IMHO as sure a thing as rain

It is very disheartening to see that the same kind of warped reasoning that gave the world WWII is alive and well in the Fatherland. This thinking is right up there with the "provocations" the Nazi's fabricated to invade Czechlosovakia and Poland. Maybe it's a Hun thing.

Whenever someone starts in to the "It's all about oil"

Have you ever noticed that those kind of people will not even consider the possibility that "It's all about the oil" for France and/or Russia, the two countries most involved in taking advantage of the Iraq situation over the past 12 years, and the two with the most to lose should Iraq become an independent, free nation?

That's not surprising. Lots of Americans thing the the US allowed Pearl Harbor to happen. Lots of British think that Sir Winston allowed Coventry to be bombed. Lots of people think Art Bell is a good source of information.

Something like the main media over here give out.

Exactly.Over there they have no other voice, just the equivalent of NPR, never challenged, never proven wrong. Same as Canada, for that matter.

Why do you state that most Germans were anti-American?
Do you have any polls proving your claim?
Actually, a poll from spring said that 3 of 4 Germans have a favourable or very favourable of the American people.

Have you ever had any contact with your family on the other side of the ocean? Have you ever wrote a letter or email, or have you called them via phone?

"What is wrong with these people?" I've decided that they just have to have something/someone to hate.

Having just read the posts on this thread, you seem to be talking about us. Blame Germans, blame Jews, blame Arabs, blame French, blame Brits. Collective guilt by the simple-minded. Really amazing. Now, what were you saying about pitiful lives and easy targets?

I agree and I disagree. I Agree that tolorance is a learned virture. I agree that not all learn to be tolorant. But in my opinion, we are being intimidated these days, into being tolorent of the intolorable, or risk being branded as homophobes, bigots, racists and/or illiterate redneck moron hicks.

When truth is uttered, whether that truth is despised or embraced in loving accord by the listeners, it is still the truth, and the speaker, has nothing to apologize for.

Yeah, you and I, we are sure that the US Admin was NOT behind the 9-11 attacks - therefore it is our truth. But what is truth worth if noone believes in it?

If EVERYONE would believe that the sun goes round the earth, the truth (that the opposite is true) would be irrelevant.

What I want to express is, that I acknowledge everyone´s right to decide wether something is true or false until evidence cannot be ignored anymore. Even though I may differ with that perception, I must not tell people what they should believe in. But OTOH, I see that there are so many incidents which are so clear and proven, that no sane man could deny them (e.g. Holocaust, 9-11). And my state e.g. prosecutes people who claim that the Holocaust did not happen.

In the case of the idea that Bush may stand behind 9-11-01, those who consider this to be eventually true, have no sufficient evidence for the truth that they can believe in it. Although we know that evidence exists (because we trust our governments for that matter), we cannot give them that evidence - because that would mean too much expenditure, and they´d probably reject it ("faked").

These people distrust the media and our governments. They are lost.
