The difference isn't the quantity of money, it's how the money is spent. The Rangers blew their wad on the single most overrated player in professional sports and have stunk on ice ever since, no matter how much money a team spends if it's spent wrong the team loses look to the "other Rangers" New Yorks blue shirted hockey team with a payroll that blows away the NFL salary cap (for half as many players) and 5 years out of the playoffs.

Don't know why you consider A-Rod overrated. His stats are mind-boggling, but he unfortunately chose to be the Ernie Banks of his generation. At least Ernie didn't really have a choice in the old days.
