N.Y. Times Columnist: Fox News Is Bush's Al Jazeera

Premier New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman attacked the Fox News Channel on Thursday, comparing the top-rated cable news network to the pro-terrorist Al Jazeera broadcasting company. Using a recent speech by Vice President Dick Cheney to argue that the Bush administration is too narrow-minded in its handling of postwar Iraq, Friedman complained, "Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein issue messages from their caves through Al Jazeera, and Mr. Cheney issues messages from his bunker through Fox."
"Out of fairness, my newspaper feels obligated [to cover the Cheney speech]," the top Times columnist wrote. "But I wish we would have said to the V.P.: If you're going to give a major speech on Iraq to an audience that's limited to your own supporters and not allow any questions, that's not news."
Friedman's suggestion that Fox News is the White House's Al Jazeera network is particularly odd, since Fox broke the story that nearly cost President Bush the 2000 election - the notorious 1976 DUI episode.
Fox's owner, NewsCorp Chairman Rupert Murdoch, supported Al Gore in the 2000 election and contributed $50,000 to the Gore campaign.
Friedman's slap at Fox's credibility comes despite that fact that earlier this year, his paper admitted to publishing stories by a journalist known to have repeatedly fabricated previous reports for the Times.

Folks the mainstream media is running scared. They realize they do not control the information highway anymore. With the advent of the internet, the all news cable channels, and talk radio they have lost the ability to set the agenda. They are going to strike back. The mainstream media and its cohorts, the Dems, will do anything to derail these alternative mediums. I would like to know more about Rush's problems and how they came to light. I find it very strange that there were 2 negative stories on Rush in the same week. If there is one guy the dems want to stop it is Rush. He has done more for the GOP than any other person. The liberals and the media are liable to do anything to stop the right and the GOP.

So we have people leaving the left leaning media. People with a choice are fleeing the left leaning media, will the advertisers be next?
Remember CNN's market is no longer the USA. CNN's market is outside the USA.

The liberal media is having a snit-fit that more than one view is being presented at Fox News - they can't get over it that things have changed and that there is now an outlet for the more conservative point of view - too bad. Wrong! A more accurate point of view!!!

Remember CNN's market is no longer the USA. CNN's market is outside the USA. So true. If you ever saw CNN International you would get the impression that the version of CNN you see in the United States was an arm of the Republican Party!!!

I do, hotels outside the USA do not have Fox news. Its a steady diet of Euronews, CNNinternational, and BBC. All with venemous hatred of all acts American.
During the recent EU diversity celebration story, the story about the USA was the controversy over the homosexual (dating service) highschool. They put on the wacko-ist protestor they could find and stated to the effect that " the USA is still homophobic despite opening up a 'tiny' high schoold for homosexual teenagers."
It is a wonder that the people on european streets are not MORE anti-american. Those who are not anti amerian tend to be those with family, friends or ties to the USA.

"If you're going to give a major speech on Iraq to an audience that's limited to your own supporters and not allow any questions, that's not news." Cheney should just tell Friedman he's on a "listening tour."
Hey, it worked for Hillary, didn't it?
