PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - The parents of a severely brain-damaged woman and others fighting to keep her alive stepped up the pressure on Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene in the case Thursday.
The feeding tube keeping Terri Schiavo alive was removed Wednesday, culminating a decade-long legal fight between her parents and her husband. Doctors say she will live as long as two weeks without it.

In this, I wholeheartedly agree. While I have been accused of a variety of things evil, I certainly understand the dilemma faced, not only by the family, but by the legal system, the alleged arbiter of situations.
Unfortunately, however, sometimes situations occur that don't fit into any established method of legal reconciliation. Such is the case here.
I don't agree that a judge should have the last word.
Again, I agree. And again, unfortunately, the system is what it is. For better or worse.

I too, have taken several law courses. And unlike you, I understand the term stare decisis. Care to inform the rest of the FReepers on the forum, about what this means??? I'll bet you won't.
So I will. Stare decisis literally translates to "the decision stands." In other words, the established precedents by previous courts in similar circumstances must be followed, unless there is a damned good reason for ignoring precedent (which introduces the decision being overturned by a higher court).
Courts are bound by precedent.
Your granny being a legal secretary--- which is as useful as being a lawyers' janitor--- doesn't mean diddly. Your studying law classes doesn't mean a thing, since you didn't learn the most basic premise of the contemporary legal system.
