Vandals destroy Sukkah at Canadian university
By MICHAEL FREUND
Jewish students at Toronto's York University were stunned earlier this week to discover that vandals had attacked and torn down the campus Sukkah, which had been erected for Sukkot.
"The Sukkah is a purely religious symbol", said Zac Kaye, Executive Director of Hillel of Greater Toronto, the campus Jewish organization. "This senseless act of desecration must act as a wake-up call for all members of the university community. Enough is enough."
It is believed that the vandals responsible for the destruction of the Sukkah struck twice over the weekend in what local police are treating as a hate crime.
The attack on the Sukkah comes in the wake of a number of high-profile anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incidents on Canadian college campuses over the past year, including a riot last fall at Montreal's Concordia University which prevented former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from delivering a speech.
"We have been following events on university campuses in Ontario for a number of years," said Ed Morgan, chair of the Ontario Region of the Canadian Jewish Congress. He described the destruction of York University's Sukkah as "a reprehensible act which shows that the lessons of religious tolerance still need to be reinforced.
"We are hopeful that the administration and student organizations will see this act of intolerance for what it is and will condemn it," he said.

Oh puh-leeze. This was not a "hate crime," it was me`ilah (sacrilege). And as for "religious tolerance," Zekharyahu HaNavi' has told us that in the messianic era all nations will have to worship HaShem in Jerusalem during Sukkot or be punished. And this guy wants to turn Sukkot into a celebration of religious diversity??? Oh well, if they can do it to Chanukkah . . . !
Where are all these "tolerance" people when the graves of the ancient Jews are being destroyed in the Ancient Homeland? Apparently even "religious tolerance" doesn't apply to those cases!
But of course "good Jews" can't believe their religion is objectively true in a way no other is. Why, that's the moslems' job!!! [/Sarcasm]
