Precisely. These people DID have the option of coming in legally. They simply chose not to. And all this flowery talk of "wanting a better life" and they "just love this country so much" is nothing but emotional masturbation. NOTHING justifies entering this country illegally. Nothing.

The worlds' poor are coming mostly for the welfare checks, food stamps, free health care and free education. Let's not fool ourselves. Most couldn't recite the Preamble of the Constitution, most have never heard of the Constitution. So did I. Being sworn in as a US citizen was the proudest moment of my life at the time. Of course, I did knowing that I did it legally. They did it knowing the did it illegally. I wonder if that bothers them?

That's not the case and you know it. The vast, vast majority of Mexicans who come here illegally do so for Agricultural jobs that pay very poorly and are very hard physically. The only thing they are "handed" are poor wages for long hours under the table. We need to fix this problem, not have a false vision that the illegal immigrants who come here lounge about and get welfare checks.

None of that is going away either. It's all the worse. The truth is --- if we closed the border ---- revolution would come about quite quickly in Mexico --- the elites know it too. They are desperate for millions more to leave their homeland for this reason. Fox sits and wrings his hands everytime he thinks the US might limit immigration in some way ---- these corrupt people are desperate ---- they know their days would be quickly numbered --- they would have to flee Mexico and get cut off from their golden egg laying goose they call Mexico.

Not around here they don't. You'll find MANY more sitting around the housing projects than in the farm lands left. American farmland has been shrinking --- we did not add 20 million farm worker jobs in the past few years. 35% of the Mexican immigrants live on welfare programs.

Let's test your theory --- no more handouts of any kind for those who have not been USA citizens for a minimum of 20 years. We'll see if the illegals and new immigrants say that sounds like a good policy. They won't.

Punishment doesn't fit the crime. If that woman in Afghanistan didn't show her face in public, she would still have her head, wouldn't she? Does that mean that it's ok to say that it was her own fault that she died? No, of course not. We acknowledge that punishments should fit the crimes. In this case, it clearly doesn't.

I don't see their deaths as "punishment". I see them a tragedy that shouldn't happen and don't need to happen. If they were being shot or thrown in jail for life then I would totally agree with you that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Let me be perfectly clear that I don't advocate trying to kill them. I am in favor of deportation though. I think the most humanitarian thing to do would be to seal the border and put pressure on the corrupt Mexican government to change their ways. Nevertheless, the bottom line is that these folks who want a better life need to come in legally.
