Punishment doesn't fit the crime. If that woman in Afghanistan didn't show her face in public, she would still have her head, wouldn't she? Does that mean that it's ok to say that it was her own fault that she died? No, of course not. We acknowledge that punishments should fit the crimes. In this case, it clearly doesn't.

I don't see their deaths as "punishment". I see them a tragedy that shouldn't happen and don't need to happen. If they were being shot or thrown in jail for life then I would totally agree with you that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Let me be perfectly clear that I don't advocate trying to kill them. I am in favor of deportation though. I think the most humanitarian thing to do would be to seal the border and put pressure on the corrupt Mexican government to change their ways. Nevertheless, the bottom line is that these folks who want a better life need to come in legally.
