Hey some hospitals are having community service functions where they hand out living wills for people to sign.
You know, it's a service to the community, right?
So far they don't seem to be asking for tissue typing to be done right off the bat.

Many of us have become hypersensitive because of the stress caring causes. Your pings are always welcome here. Thank you.

Dehydration... yes, we are praying. It would be a mercy for her to die quickly, but it will not be painlessly - otherwise, there would be no need for morphine.
God, be our judge. What can we do? Tell us.
To: MarMema
So they can be dehydrated to death more quickly? Who do you think you are, to tell other people that they MUST take food and water? Have you always enjoyed playing God?

Every 26 yr old ought to have their wills made out. Yes. And your trying to tie this to schoolchildren or infants is a ridiculously lame debating tactic.

She is supposedly off morphine now. I am about to begin praying for God to take her quickly, like now.
here's why. They said her parents got to see her after the tube was removed and complained that she was so heavily sedated. Supposedly Felos then went on tv or something and announced that since they complained she would not be given any more pain meds at all.

but do you wish this were true so people could be dehydrated more quickly, instead of having to wait all the years of court battles? Read my Post 464.

Ever seen anyone die this way? Completely irrelevant to the discussion. If that is the way that somebody wants to go, then that's the way they should be allowed to go. Otherwise, you're playing God.

Right. Every 26 yr old ought to have their wills made outI hope you're not joking, because they certainly should. To say otherwise is to ignore reality.

When and where did Terri say that she wished to not be fed or hydrated if she became brain-damaged? False analogy and irrelevant. That is the tragedy in this case - that Schiavo DID NOT have a Living Will or other document on file detailing what treatment (if any) she wanted.

And your trying to tie this to schoolchildren or infants is a ridiculously lame debating tactic.Unfortunately Tigerseye is right on the money. A floor of brain damaged kids are next in line after Terri, and I am willing to bet they didn't make out their living wills yet...hope their parents can make good choices for them.

So since we don't know what Terri would have wanted to do with her "right" to die, what is the way to proceed? Err on the side of life, or err on the side of death?

To say otherwise is to ignore reality. To believe that the average 26 yr old will seriously consider their mortality is ignoring reality, honey.

I'm upset because Schiavo apparently didn't have a Living Will or other instructions about what to do in a case like this. That was my reaction too, for what it's worth. My mother left us a few years ago. She had a living will, and while it didn't make the process pleasant, she was able to die in comfort and dignity.
