I sat with her for four days after they stopped feeding and other treatment except for pain. If starvation isn't painful, why would she need this treatment? And if she received this treatment for other symptoms, then how do you know that starvation isn't painful... you cannot go on your eyewitness account, because this example is flawed.

Even if everything you say about Terri is true, I would NEVER, EVER allow someone I love to live like that. Period. It should be up to Terri and no one else as to whether she wants to live or not. I believe she wants to live and has communicated this by trying to get out of a chair when a therapist told her she would die if she didn't. According to her father, she almost made it out of the chair on her own power.

OUCH, how about some other choices?

>>Death by dehydration is also extremely unpleasant.
It is TORTURE! Even Jesus cried in agony on the cross: "I thirst!"
To: Dave S
Why should she not be given the benefit of the doubt? My God, what if she is in there? If there is any chance, don't we have an obligation to lean that way rather than the other?
Truth is, the doctor opinion is widely conflicting - many doctors have said she is NOT in a vegetative state and many more have volunteered to be of service in her therapy, believing they can help her. Doesn't she deserve the opportunity to try?
She hasn't been given ANY therapy!
Just a couple months ago, in July I think, we read here on FR about the man who suddenly began to speak after nineteen years of silence. He's now on the road to complete recovery and I bet he's pretty happy his parents stuck by him.
She deserves a chance.

See #108. You probably know this already. Terri's websight is sharing legal memos (?) from various lawyers that make the case for Gov. Bush stepping in to help Terri.
I downloaded the Titus document, e-mailed - with a note to Gov. Bush's web 'assistant' in the "Subject line": [Legal basis for saving Terri: please help Gov. Bush! Ugent!]

Not if you read the case. The evidence points to Mr. Sciavo as the person responsible for her condition. Of course, the full evidence in unavailable because he controls it!
To: agrace
Why should she not be given the benefit of the doubt? How many courts have been involved in this already? Seems that she has been given benefit of the doubt and the family didnt prove the case.

You know, I am sick of this term "vegetable". Even if someone is brain dead or in a come, the term removes all the humanity from the person. I think the word should be stricken from the medical profession.

My mother died several months ago from severe pneumonia, complicated by infection, long-term Parkinson's and a bowel obstruction which required surgery which she was unlikely to survive.Sorry to hear of your mother's suffering. But it sounds like she was terminal, and elderly, and accepting of her situation. Terri is not terminal.
Have you watched the videos of Terri? If not, see post 54.
Anyone who has not seen those videos has no basis for saying Terri does not want to live.
To: Hildy
Please let all your relatives know this so that they can prepare legal papers to prevent you from stopping them being fed if they are ever in Terri's situation. I think the main point that most, including her parents, are trying to get across is that she deserves the 'chance' for rehabilatative therapy. Terri is being fed,no ventilator or heart pump, obviously she is not brain dead.

Seems that she has been given benefit of the doubt and the family didnt prove the case. The jury didn't think the case was proved against OJ, either.
You think all judges are infallible and incorruptible? Especially Florida judges?
If the judge here is wrong, the sentence is irreversible.
To: pollywog
SO what is Jeb waiting for? I don't live in Florida and the more familiar I get with THIS situation the more it stinks to high heaven. This is nothing more than legalized murder of an innocent woman PLUS the circumstance which caused her problem are QUESTIONABLE. IF Jeb does NOT stop this then he is no better then the doctor and Terri's husband. Jeb is her last resource.
