You, on the other hand, are asking us to pay for advancing your viewpoint on Jesus Christ.

I don't care what the secular humanist anti-Christian liberals say about religious freedom. You and they need to argue with the founding fathers. Congress PAID for the printing of the first bible in 1782 and inside that bible it says, "For use of schools". They gave sermons at graduations, they paid for missionary trips to the indians, etc. etc. I don't care what your personal viewpoint is - history is on MY SIDE. The only people on YOUR SIDE are the revionists, the ACLU, and their ilk. And I will never be stopped from preaching the gospel IN PUBLIC.

So, history and you are at odds. Deal with it.

And I will never be stopped from preaching the gospel IN PUBLIC.

Again, no one has asked you to. Preach in public, or on the radio, or on TV, or with billboards, or in magazines, or on the internet, or...

No one is trying to stop you.

Congress PAID for the printing of the first bible in 1782 and inside that bible it says, "For use of schools".

It cost a great deal of money to print a book in the 1700s. One of the most popular books of the time was the Bible. I put it to you that they paid for the printing because it was a very popular book, and entirely suitable for teaching reading. They were not attempting to force everybody to be Christian.

- history is on MY SIDE.

If you mean history's on your side that most of the Founders were Christian, and most early Americans were Christian, indeed you are right.

If you mean that they intended to found a theocratic government, history proves you utterly incorrect. It was attempted to insert the words "Our Lord Jesus Christ" after the word "Creator" in the Declaration. It was voted down. The word "God" appears nowhere in the Constitution. They surely could have inserted it. It provides expressly the "respecting an establishment of religion" clause - and the "free exercise thereof" clause. It could have rigidly supported only your view of Jesus Christ - but it doesn't.

So, history and you are at odds. Deal with it.

If your argument is the former, then you and I and history are not at odds. If the latter, then the founding documents themselves show the incorrectness of your position.

You're right. In addition to this whole Christianity debate, I think we should also go back to the days when:

- only white, male landowners could vote,
- women were 2nd-class citizens,
- slaves were 4/5 of a person,

etc. I mean, that's the way the Founding Fathers created this nation and in your opinion, nothing should ever change.

Yeah and Congress also provided over a confederation back then that had several hundred thousand blacks as slaves. Your point? America has never been a paragon of virtue. We've accomplished a lot more than any other civilization in human history. All of this doomsday rhetoric about the death of the republic is getting old. One day the socialist system here will collapse. To barrow from Marx, it is a historic innevitability...

I've read your posts in this thread, and I cannot discern in terms of action, what your side is all about. It's obvious that you're a Christian and that you faith runs deep. Kudos, congrats, hoorah.

Now, that being said, what is it you want? As an atheist, I want to know what it is you want? Last time I checked, I was content to let Christians be Christians so long as they let me hold to my beliefs. What's so wrong with that?
