What do Rush Limbaugh and Bill Clinton have in common?

What do Rush Limbaugh and Bill Clinton have in common? A short essay by Alan Beane Gilford, New Hampshire

And the answer is, they both clearly illustrate the fallibility of man – a reminder, however unwelcome, that we are all prone to make mistakes at some time or another; and we all carry the potential to do the wrong thing intentionally.

Maybe it is a good thing that the framers of our Declaration of Independence established our equality among men and our unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as originating with our “Creator” as opposed to some pop culture talent or politician of the times. God is an infallible concept, and the embodiment of a greater good, certainty and the sensibility of order.

That our unalienable rights come from a greater power than Man set the foundation for a Government that could only derive it’s “just” powers from the governed.

The framers of the Declaration of Independence knew they too were fallible, but they instinctively looked to God for the moral authority to do the right thing. And they weren’t bashful in saying so in what is unarguably one of the most profound documents in the history of mankind. In the Declaration’s conclusion, the authors state their appeal to “the Supreme Judge of the World” for the righteousness of their intentions. And, in saying so, I don’t think they had the Hague in mind.

The Constitution that followed and its early amendments were largely logical constructs founded upon English Common Law. And what is the foundation of Common Law? It very simply comes from the Ten Commandments, given by God to Abraham, that define a moral code of conduct, i.e. what are the right versus the wrong behaviors. Today, we call this moral code of conduct defined by The Ten Commandments the Judeo-Christian Ethic. If memory serves me right, the same “Creator” that endowed us with our equality and unalienable rights as defined in our Declaration of Independence, was the same God that gave those famous tablets to Abraham.

My point is - like it or not, this Country’s Government was founded on Judeo-Christian principles originating in a belief in God The Creator - a power inherently superior to Man. If we as a people give up on this great concept, then we have to ask ourselves: from whom do we derive our rights to govern ourselves as a free and independent people? The answer would have to be some person or group of persons – among whom, I presume, would be folks like Rush Limbaugh and Bill Clinton that are fallible, however well intentioned with a demonstrated ability to intentionally do the wrong thing.

As a Country full of folks who make mistakes from time to time, it’s a darn good idea that our Founders intended that we all aspire to a greater good, a sense of order, and certainty of righteousness that follows from a belief in a Creator and the Judeo Christian Ethic. A great and good country must have underlying moral truths and principles that define our aspirations as a people. The founders of our Country well defined them for us; and upon that foundation has been built over the past 200 years the greatest country on the face of the planet.

Today, and for at least the past four decades, these principles and moral truths, which have so brilliantly been applied as the bricks and mortar of our Government structure, have been under unrelenting attack from within.

We abandon them at our peril.

One difference. Rush was a guy on the radio. Clinton was President of the United States.

That's right. Rush can neither push the button nor confiscate my income. That the population doesn't know the difference is scary.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary.

We must try as best we can.

-more to the point, Rush humbly stated that he was NOT a hero, or someone worthy of praise...ie he was a sinner.
-clintoon lives for the praise, to be the center of attention, as if he WERE a god.

English common law existed even before the English converted to Christianity. It doesn't derive from Christianity at all. So said Thomas Jefferson in an essay I've posted earlier on Free Republic, and could probably find again. Should have saved the link.

The United States Constitution derives from the British Constitution (yes, they have one, it's just not written out the way ours is), English law, Roman law, Greek law, and principles of the Enlightenment, as well as political theories the Founders developed themselves.

I don't really see how anybody who's actually studied the Constitution could argue that it derives from the Ten Commandments, but I know that's the buzz these days among certain people who call themselves fundamentalists.

Yet another difference: Rush accepted responsibility for what he has done, and refused to allow himself to be cast as a hero, role model, or victim.

Bill Clinton had his wife Hillary go on T.V., and blame his behavior on the influence of a strong woman (Bill's mother) over his life.

Just what affliction did ScumBubba suffer from that caused his doctor to prescribe extra-marital sex with a girl young enough to be his daughter, ending up addicted to the same? I'd like a list of the symptoms, Dr's name and phone number, and is this covered by TriCare?

Never mind, Ms Feckless has assured me that multiple .38+P wounds are covered.....

I had a doctor who smoked, but advised patients not to.
Was he a hypocrit? Or was that good advice and his human weakness wouldnt allow him to quit. He couldnt cause he was an addict, of course. BUT, he did try to stop others from suffering his gate. I dont think that makes him a hypocrit or discredit his advice.

Another - Limbaugh advocates you each having control over your own lives. Clinton advocates you giving over control to other fallable beings - especially himself.
