How is starving to death 'dying with dignity'? And she is not in a 'vegetative' state, unless you and I have different definitions of the word. I don't think of someone who laughs, smiles, shows emotion, and tries to speak as 'vegetative'. Furthermore, her parents want her to improve, they want to give her therapy, so your statement that "they wanted her to continue on in a vegetative state for years to come" is misleading at best.

Nineteen years ago, my daughter was born with severe mental and physical disabilities. The Doctors told us that she only had 26 days max to live. We began planning for her funeral as soon as I got out of the hospital---just 30 hours after walking in the hospital doors (which back then was fast).
She is now NINETEEN YEARS OLD! (Doctors DON'T KNOW everything).
She neither walks nor talks, she does not feed herself, she still wears diapers, and she functions at about a year and a half level. And she is a dwarf.
She has had a feeding tube, fundoplycation, Broviac line, Trach (and was on a respirator in our home for 3 early years with privacy-eliminating round-the-clock nursing in our home), several eye surgeries, and scoliosis/kyphosis surgeries. She no longer has any of those things.
And she is the most LOVING girl. She LOVES to snuggle. She LOVES to go to her "special needs" school and LOVES to go on the school bus every morning. She also LOVES to go in the car and on an airplane.
She almost died SEVEN TIMES, and I had to rush her into the hospital myself several of them. She has seisures, one of which lasted an hour and 15 minutes. The ER Doc asked me if they had orders to DNR. I asked what DNR was. He said "Do Not Rescusitate." I said "You absolutely DO NOT have such orders...GET IN THERE AND HELP HER!!!!!"
After a 15 year gap and 4 miscarriages in 13 months, and after finally talking my husband into another child, we had another little girl. She is quite smart, active and of average size.
Wirestripper, we don't love our older daughter any more---OR LESS---than our younger daughter. And I'm sure Terri's parents don't have any love-difference for their kids either.
By YOUR standards, my older daughter is apparently "vegetative." By MY standards, although I would prefer that she did not have any problems, I wouldn't trade her for the world!!!!
Terri's PARENTS LOVE and care about her...Her so-called formerly "till death do us part" husband obviously does NOT!
GOD knows best, NOT man! Starving a disabled person is ABSOLUTELY ABHORRENT!!! The so-called husband would be in PRISON if he did starved his DOG or CAT!!!

You are your daughter's guardians and are entitled to make whatever decisions you wish.
In the Florida case, the husband is the guardian and is carrying out the wishes of the injured woman.
There has been a lot of palaver on FR and elsewhere that "he tried to kill her" and "he just wants the insurance" and eally wants to live".
Those are lies.
It takes very little evidence to remove a guardian and replace them in a case like this, but in 13 years of court battles, the parents have turned up ZERO evidence, which is why the courts have ruled against them.
Jeb Bush was asked to intervene, so you can be sure the State Police and Atty Generals Office looked into the matter.
The overwhelming opinion of the qualified medical personel on the case, not the nurses and bottle washers, but the specialists, is that she is in a chronic vegetative state. The overwhelming evidence from her legal guardian is that she did not wish to continue in this condition, but preferred to be allowed to die.
Her misguided and overly sentimental parents have kept her in a living hell for 13 years, when she had made clear that she wanted to die.

I'm not surprised that there are police in Terri's room, given the statements I've seen on various Terri threads--threats to kidnap her, threats to kill Michael Schaivo, threats directed at the judge, and who knows what else.
People are angry and upset, as evidenced by some of the posts on these threads. They've deeply invested in Terri's cause. Now that the long court battle over Terri has ended--and barring a miracle, it has--for some, those emotions have run wild. I just hope no one acts on those emotions.
