Post responses on this thread. Do or die for the Marlins. Break the Curse and Go to the Series or sink into ignominy for yet another year for the Cubbies.

Which will it be? Quien es mas macho?

Maybe, but I'll be willing to bet that there was a lot more money lost in Chicago than was won in Florida.

Why don't you post what the problem was and get to the point instead of posting more questions. I would like to understand what bothered you. Go private if you must but get to the point.

You have FReepmail.

You said it was an idiotic thing to do and I thought you were insinuating because I thought it was a natural tendacy for every fan to do it I was an idiot. That being as it may it has happened numerous times before and will happen numerous times again and I say the average fan would do the same thing.
I saw a guy on TV getting riled up and advocated killing him,now excuse that if you like but I wont and I dont understand the idea of you all wanting him to move but if I were him and the people around me acted that way I wouldnt want to live there anyway but this is America and he can live where he wishes. Also I cant understand anyone getting that mad over a damn baseball game that shows a lack of self control and I dont want to see America become like some of these foreign countries and their soccer matches and people getting maimed and killed.
I think it is rather childish to act like this after you have had time to think about it but you can certainly do as you wish.
This forum is open to the public and if you publish a statement you need to expect to get a reaction and I am here to stay unless the moderator takes me off.
I am now laughing at myself for calling you Bozo and I apologise.I guess I am starting to act like a Cub fan but I get carried away at times myself.

I did not marry one of you relatives and I dont know any other dolts so dont call me by any of your family names.
If the people in Chicago act as you do I hope they never get in another playoff and I damned well would move if I were that young man, Chicago dont deserve nice young people
like that.
You must live on the South side where Bad,Bad Leroy Brown came from.
Kill your ball players for screwing up not the fans who pays their salary.I wasnt there but the replays dont show him sitting on the wall and as stated before ownership can stop that very easily you just want a scapegoat.
I am going to see my "Root Doctor" and get him to put a real hex on the Cubs just for spite. You ever heard of the 'Curse of the chicken"?
Tell your wife to kiss Mr. Dolt goodnight for me, OK!

I'm STILL upset about the Cubs losing, but why did it have to be to the Fish? This is a black eye for baseball....the pennant goes to a rootless team with the most pathetic fan support, who didn't even win their division!

It's time to admit that the whole Sunshine State expansion by MLB was a big mistake. Sure, I know all the arguments they made: "It will gain tens of millions of new fans in Latin America! Florida is the third largest state now! These cities (Tampa/St. Pete and Miami) have arrived in the big leagues, now they need big league franchises!"

Baseballs. It's been a disaster. The Marlins couldn't get better than an average crowd of 16,000 this year, the Rays stink on ice and always will, and the international future of the game is in East Asia, not south of the border. Pull the plug already and move these teams to communities that want them and would love them!

I sympathize with Cub fans honest I do I just cant go along with the way Mr. Dolt and some of them act.
I wont name the team but I have been waiting on mine to produce since 1950 and I know the feeling but I ant been ready to kill a fan or make one move over it.
Personally I dont think baseball could have produced a better setting than a Cubs -Red Sox contest but it wasnt to be.

don't be surprised if the Red Sox outperform the Yankees over the next decade or two. .......... I get the feeling they will pull ahead next year and not look back for a long while.

Predicting how the Sox will perform over the next two decades is a bit hasty, don't you think? ....especially since A) Nomar - yes, he's still by far your best position player - is probably leaving, B) the Yankees will continue to have the highest payroll in the league, C) your pitching outside of Pedro (who's on the downside of his career) is questionable, to understate the matter considerably.

You Sox fans are too much .....one minute you're convinced that you're cursed forever, and the next you're predicting dominance over the Yanks for the next 20 years. What an emotional roller coaster ride that must be!

Roger Clemens was said to be on the "downside of his career" when he left Boston for Toronto and eventually down to the Yankees. I think he won more Cy Young award out of Boston than with Boston (or at least just as many).

I think Martinez has half his career still ahead of him, especially since he is relying less on his fastball and more on his other pitches. Whether the Sox care to pay what it will take to retain him after 2004 is another question. Lowe's good for a few more years and Wakefield, old as he is, still has a good number of years in him. Knuckleballers have longevity - some of them pitched well into their 40s. So I would say that the Red Sox are one good pitcher away from having starting pitching as good as the Yankees had this year.

They do have a problem with the bullpen but it seems that they have some good pitchers to work with for next year such as Mike Timlin. They do need a closer and I think they will need to look for one over the winter (unless they think they can bring around Kim).

Their position players are pretty strong all around and I think we can even afford to lose Nomar. It's a deep team already and besides, I think we can now compete in the free agent market now that Boston isn't the hellhole (from the player's standpoint) that it used to be in the days of Duquette and Harrington.

Yes, it is a little ridiculous of me to speculate two decades ahead! And being a Red Sox fan is truly a roller coaster ride. I could very well be singing a different tune six hours from now.

How many tears can one fit into a single post?

I'm STILL upset about the Cubs losing, but why did it have to be to the Fish? This is a black eye for baseball....the pennant goes to a rootless team with the most pathetic fan support, who didn't even win their division!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

It's time to admit that the whole Sunshine State expansion by MLB was a big mistake. Sure, I know all the arguments they made: "It will gain tens of millions of new fans in Latin America! Kind sucks knowing that this joke Marlins team has more World Series appearances in the last 6 years than those beloved Schlubbies have had in the last 95. Check your grapes, Chico, I think that they are turning.

Baseballs. It's been a disaster. The Marlins couldn't get better than an average crowd of 16,000 this year, the Rays stink on ice and always will, and the international future of the game is in East Asia, not south of the border. Pull the plug already and move these teams to communities that want them and would love them!

I have a better idea. Pull the plug on that suck-ass Schlubbies team that couldn't win a foot race against a South American tree sloth. Do us all a favor, and take your team, your dump of a ballpark(cathedral of baseball, my ass) and all your hopes of a pennant, and throw them into Lake Michigan, so they can lay on the bottom with all the rest of the Schlubbies woulda coulda shoulda years.

Don't act like the Cubs fans have been selling that dump out every year. Some of us actually pay attention to these things. Get over it. Cubs Lose, Cubs Lose, Cubs Lose. You'd think you'd be used to it by now.....

Speaking of downsides of careers, the Dodgers never thought Pedro would ever even have an upside, let alone be one of the most dominate pitchers of any era! It has to be up there among the worst trades in MLB history -- Pedro Martinez for Delino DeShields. If the Sox had made that trade with the Yanks, the Bambino's Curse would've been nullified immediately. The Dodgers haven't done squat since, if you've noticed.

It's conceivable that Pedro could get a second wind (a la Clemens), he's a much different - smaller - physical specimen, so we'll just have to wait and see. Lowe is good, but he's very emotional. ....Another big question mark. Wakefield is no Phil Niekro, but he's a decent k-baller who could last a while. ....like Charlie Hough.

And don't forget that many Red Sox players had career years this year -- years that they'd be hard-pressed to repeat. .....And they still lost the division by 6 games. Many Angels players had career years last year, but they quickly reverted to their usual form this year.

But you're right, Boston is a helluva lot more attractive place now that Duquette and Harrington are history. I, like you, see the Sox in the thick of things for years to come.

Should be an epic battle tonight. .....Although one can never tell. It could just as easily be a blowout (for either team).

Eventually it'll all die down and as long as he doesn't go around yelling "I'm the guy" he'll be allright other than what this will do to him as a person. If he's as big a fan as they've said I doubt he'll ever forgive himself.

He doesn't sound like the kind of guy seeking his 15 minutes, in fact, I would welcome him getting to milk this, I think he deserves it. He deserves not to be blamed for the lost series for starters, but even Hollywood is looking to cash in on him, it would be nice to see him on TV now and again. http://money.cnn.com/2003/10/16/news/companies/movie_fan/

I'm definately frustrated, the Cubs have always been my NL team and I hate the Marlins almost as much as I hate the Yankees and Red Sox. I was looking forward to the Cubs winning it all, breaking the curse and watching those others suffer.

Wow, now that is saying something! Even after losing to the Marlins, I have a hard time hating them like the Yankees/BoSox, except for their total lack of fan support in the lean times. Some of that is understandable given what owner did tearing them apart like he did.

My dislike of the northeast sports fan in general was my motivation in stepping in and trying to stop those that appeared to be negative towards this guy...That is something Boston fans would do. Heck they probably would have killed the guy already. Cubs fans are different, Leon Durham did exactly what Bill Buckner did, but in the deciding game...3 years earlier! Cubs fans still look at the totality of his career and never speak of the error. Sox fans can't shut hating and whining about it, its in their nature to be hateful and complain. Not so with da Cubs, and they've suffered worse and supported less for longer. Cubs fans love the guys wearing the uniform...BoSox fans are just a$$holes. I hope they win the series so they find out they never really had anything "there" other than the curse of the Bambino in the first place.

I've always resented them claiming ownership of "the curse" title, no one ever actually "cursed" them like the Cubs, its something sports writers created. Its subjective and annoying, just like them.

They don't deserve Grady Little, and the Yankees don't deserve Torre, both good guys and managers. Baker is as responsible for overusing the pitchers as any player is for choking, and he's lost in a game 6 meltdown for the 2nd year! Cubs fans aren't talking about firing or killing him. (I think they should at least entertain the idea of CRITICIZING HIM ONCE IN A WHILE because he doesn't comprehend how to judge pitchers, that is clear now)

Truth be told, initially (as in during the game and shortly after) I did think the guy deserved a crack in the jaw for being a bonehead, nothing more and certainly not anything he couldn't shake off after a few minutes. However, knowing what I know about him now I can't help but feel sorry for him.

Truth be told, I did too when it happened. I think everybody reacted to the way Alou reacted. But when I saw the look on his face when he was sitting and everyone else was standing, then the Gonzo error...I thought, dear God, no human being deserves what is about to happen to this guy! Then I found out all the things about him and felt even worse for him. I hope he doesn't kill himself.

I also hope Santo doesn't die in the off season. Good chance of both really.

This is the day after another one of those things we'll be talking about many lazy summers in the future....

Too bad RedeyeChicago is a Trib publication, taken with the video at mlb.com, it is crystal clear that it was a classic definition of fan interference (fan reaching over the field of play to alter the path of a ball). That ump had better not be working the World Series.

Actually it's a picture of my neighbors. I was thinking about moving until they invited me over for a woolly mammoth roast and some grog. Man, they really know how to party!

Sorry if I got offensive.

At first I was outraged when Bartman interfered with that catch. Now I fear for his life. I think we have to forgive him. There were half a dozen fans right behind him trying to do the same thing.

The Cubs are being paid the big bucks because the are professional enough not to let something like that throw them off.

No, you don't forgive him; you just blame him and the left-field ump who was as blind as a bat and as dumb as a post for Game 6 instead of for the entire series.

Companies will succeed and collapse....

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west....

The Red Sox and Cubs won't see World Series play.

Yep, sounds about right! Kudos to my NY Yankees, 2003 AL Champs, soon to be 2003 World Series Champs!
