I am saying you have no common sense if you think that. I do not attend any sports events today but I did as a young man. As a kid or young man it is everyones dream to catch a major league baseball as a souvenir.
I am saying that every fan that would try to catch a foul ball at a baseball game would most certainly have tried to catch that ball,yes.
The only idiotic thing I have seen is these lame brain idiots wanting to hurt and I even saw one that said he wanted to kill him. Well if that is your stance and the way you believe you dont deserveve to live in America even though you are entitled too.

I'm in the same boat as you are although I remember the '64 Browns very well and the beginning of the Modell curse. I was in Cleveland for the '97 series and although the Tribe didn't win it all, the Game 6 victory in Miami provided one night of pure ecstasy.

As a lifelong, collapse-hardened Cub fan, I say congratulations to the Marlins. It's been a long time since I've seen that kind of tenacity, hunger, and propensity to not give up. You found your mojo when it was hardest and are deserving NL champs. Your lineup is downright scary: Pudge, Lowell, Cabrera and Bell are by far the most lethal 3-through-6 hitters in the game. Oh yeah, and then Conine's taking up the 7 slot. Throw in Pierre and Castillo at the top, Gonzalez' glove and an epic EPIC performance by Josh Beckett, and the AL Champ is going to have their hands full next week.

To Jack McKeon: You have my utmost respect. You destroyed my Cubs in 1984 when you were General Manager of the San Diego Padres. Last night, you were the field general extraordinaire. You made Dusty Baker look like baseball's answer to Tim Floyd with your keen use of the bullpen, aggressiveness on the basepaths, and good ol' fashioned Kerry-who? confidence.

Dear Dusty: Thanks for a great season. You took the Cubs further than anyone expected. All I ask is that you explain why in God's name:

1) You had no one up in the bullpen with a 3-0 lead in the 8th inning in game 6, and

2) You let Kerry Wood go down the drain without even a thought of getting Clement up in the bullpen to counter Beckett.

Wood didn't have his best stuff, but you can't fault a pitcher that hits a crucial home run in a crucial game that changes the momentum in a major way. Wood pitched with his guts all year, but made some big mistakes (hanging sliders) that should have caused a four-alarm fire in Dusty's head. Aside from Alou, his teammates were impatient at the plate and failed to produce.

But we know all this already. It hurts too much to think about. But that's what being a Cub fan is all about.

Right now, with Prior, Wood, Zambrano, and Clement (and Juan Cruz, if he ever reaches his potential), there's no better rotation in baseball. The problem is in the field. Ironically, third base is resolved and the rest of the lineup is a question mark. Sosa and Alou are not going to get any better at this point in their careers, Lofton, too. Patterson's coming back from a meniscus injury, so we'll see how it affects his speed.

Gonzo is probably safe at short, but Grudzielanek, Simon, and Karros are likely gone, as well as Bako. The Cubs need to get a guy in his prime (let's say Richie Sexson for Choi and a player) to play first base and then they have to address the bullpen (Farnsworth, Borowski, and Remlinger will stick, but Veres, Alfonseca, and maybe Cruz are ticketed out).

Should be an interesting offseason.

Spring Training's only for months away.

There are actually two doofuses going for the ball and one guy who knows what the heck is going on (middle guy), bugeyed in horror

I've seen players yell at the fans to GET BACK!! when it looked like the player might have a play. But in the heat of the moment, that just may not be possible.

I've also seen a player in the bullpen try to catch a ball that is a toss-up as to if it would have gone into the bullpen (for a home run) or into the outfield (left-center at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY) for at least a stand-up double. The umpire ruled it a home-run. The fans were all over the Ottawa Lynx manager, Gary Allenson, who was eventually tossed from the game. I bet Allenson chewed that player in the bullpen out but good.

Note, Allenson caught for Clemens in his very first start as a pitcher in MLB.

The “major gambling interests” should hold the Cubs accountable. They’re the ones that lost the games, not some guy who affected one play in one game. No interference was called.

The Cubs are major league professionals. They shouldn’t fall apart just because they didn’t catch a foul ball. Anyone who tries to make that guy’s life difficult is a major league Neanderthal.

The Cubs lost. No one lost it for them. Deal with it.

BTW, I could give a rats a$$ about gambling, I’m not too keen on bikers, and Bush is a bigger let down than the Cubs.

For starters because the shortstop was supposed to be on the field playing the game. The fan was not, he interfered in the game in a play that cost the home team, HIS team an out. Second, because it is perceived that the short stop only made the error because he was pressing to turn the double play. A double play that would not have needed to be turned had the fan not interfered and the Cubs had gotten the out.

The gamblers will go after the fan because he broke the cardinal rule of sitting on the wall. You don't harm your own teams chances of winning.

Comparing my employer/employee relationship to this situation is idiotic and doesn't even make sense. In addition, if I screwed up on the job they would have the right to fire me or transfer me.

He payed for a ticket and was warned repeatedly about paying attention to the game sitting in those seats. All the folks sitting there were.

Finally, I have never said he should be forced to move you dolt. That is an inference that you have assumed. What I have said is that he was going to have to move. Not only for his own safety and peace of mind but for that of his family as well.

I don't think you understand the city of Chicago and some of the people that live there very well.

Personally I think it's a shame that he's in the spot he's in but he has only himself to blame for it. Considering his supposed knowledge of baseball he knew better but couldn't resists having a SECOND game trophy. You see the irony is that Alou had already thrown him a ball earlier in the game at the end of another inning.
