Schwarzenegger Asked To Explain Ken Lay Meeting Schwarzenegger, Bush To Meet In California

WASHINGTON -- California governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger must explain the substance of his private May 2001 meeting with Enron chief Ken Lay, the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights wrote in a letter to Schwarzenegger Tuesday.

FTCR, which was the state's most vocal critic of Governor Gray Davis' handling of the energy crisis, said that if the governor-elect did not recount the meeting by the time of his inauguration, the group would ask state lawmakers to open an investigation to uncover the substance of the meeting, including any information that might further the state's efforts to return billions of dollars that taxpayers and consumers overpaid for electricity during the energy crisis.

"A meeting with the biggest corporate crook in recent memory, while he and his firm were in the midst of ripping off the state, should not be taken lightly," FTCR wrote. "As Governor, you must explain to Californians what you were doing at that meeting, what information Ken Lay shared with you and how the meeting has influenced your thinking on energy issues."

In addition to calling on Schwarzenegger to come clean about the meeting with Lay, the group highlighted key aspects of the governor-elect's energy program that reflect an Enron perspective on energy policy. In the letter, FTCR asked Schwarzenegger to rewrite his energy policy and remove his push for further energy deregulation.

The policy proposals, available online at www.joinarnold.com, call for the expansion of California's failed experiment with electricity deregulation, including a dramatic ceding of power from state regulation to federal control.

Schwarzenegger also proposes to dismantle the California Power Authority, which FTCR identifies as the "state's last line of defense against a real or manufactured energy shortage."

"Your proposal to revisit the deregulation experiment that exploded into California's single worst financial and public policy disaster directly contradicts the public interest in ending deregulation once and for all. Californians cannot afford another deregulation nightmare," FTCR wrote.

President George W. Bush and Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger will meet this week in California.

Meanwhile, the White House has confirmed that President George W. Bush and Schwarzenegger will meet Thursday during the president's visit to California.

During a White House briefing Tuesday morning, spokesman Scott McClellan said the president is looking forward to the meeting in Riverside. He said the two men will discuss shared priorities.

Bush talked briefly with Schwarzenegger on the phone last week and congratulated him on his victory in California's recall election.

Naturally Arnold was making arrangement for Enron to rip off California, cause a real crisis, then bankrupt themselves, just so to make Davis look bad, in case Davis gets reelected in 2002, so then, in 2003 Arnold can run in the recall election and become governor. Obviously that must have been the subject of the meeting.

(/heavy sarcasm)

The attacks are starting already.

I guess everyone and anyone who ever spoke to Ken Lay must be a crook and should be jailed immediately. (/more sarcasm, I just couldn't help it)

I would like to take a moment to ask for donations.

It should be clear to all conservatives by now that the left intends to demonize us. They don't just disagree with us, they hate us. And worse, they want to get other people to hate us.

Places like Free Republic drive the left batty.

Please donate. Thanks for your consideration.

" The biggest corporate crook in recent memory" is what this socialist weenie stated.

I know some of you think Ken Ley is the embodiment of all-evil, and he may be, but so far he hasn’t been charged.

I have been involved in very small-scale projects where you have a team with each member having certain responsibilities. I have seen many situations where some team member could have run some sort of scam, and the head guy wouldn’t have had a clue as to what is going on.

All of these so called journalists who are making all these allegations have no clue how the corporate world works at that level. BTW, neither do I, but I’ve at least had to make a payroll, and even on a small project you can’t know what everybody is doing.

I'm a Houstonian, Ken Lay's in Houston - we were probably standing in the same checkout line at the same time at Krogers on West Gray in our mutual part of town. That'd be enough to make me a prime suspect for corruption, according to these people!

All rich people are "evil and crooks", didn't you know that? ;)

That's why we have to take away all their "ill gotten gains" and hand it to the "poor".

OOPS -- doesn't this sound just like the communist slogans?

Hey Fair!

Apparently anyone currently dealing with IBM, Ford, GM, Walmart, P&G executives should be careful to keep meetings secret so that in the future they will not be associated with them.

Kind of hard to gain new contacts (you know "in secret"...).

...Actually it was HILLARY's California Mouthpiece ARRIANA HUFFINGTON that first started blasting ARNOLD about Enron and Power on TV at the start of the day that later saw...

...Massive Power Blackouts in the East..!!!

...The very night before HILLARY had herself blasted BUSH on TV about Enron and Power during her Booksigning in the HILLARY 4-President Hotbead of the Shaker Heights/Cleveland Ohio Area.

...Immediately after the Power Blackout started up outside the Shaker Heights/Cleveland Ohio Area...

...the Friend of HILLARY Canadian Prime Minister Chretien deceivingly announced on TV that the Power Blackout had started from a Lightning Strike on a Niagra Falls Power Station. Actually NO Lightning Strikes occurred north of the Carolinas that Day..!!!

...All day and evening long that Day HILLARY continued to blast BUSH on TV ...this time blaming him directly for the Power Blackout.

...Now no one can publically explain what caused this Power Blackout, only where it started = The Shaker Heights/Cleveland Area

HILLARY = POWER BLACKOUT..???

Why not ask TONY COELHO..!!!

I'd like to hear about what former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin said to Ken Lay before I hear what former actor Arnold Schwarzenegger said to Ken Lay.
