Radio host Don Imus is lashing out at rival Rush Limbaugh "even though," the New York Post pointed out today, "Imus himself was off the air several times during the 1970s and '80s because of cocaine and alcohol addiction."
"Rush is a fat, pill-popping loser and an undisciplined slob who was turning his maid into a drug pusher, and she's the one who's gonna go to prison, and - as soon as he gets caught - he starts whining," Imus said Monday on WFAN in New York.
"He's going to rehab because he can't get any more pills, and he's gonna go to prison," Imus said.
"Suck it up, fatso, and stop taking 100 pills a day or whatever ... and employ some discipline in your life," Imus said.

I can't recall, but was there this much compassion for Bret Favre and Robert Downey Jr.? Did the press say these same things about JFK?

IMUS is a drooling fool. He drools more on his program than Chris Matthews spits on his!
To: kattracks
Pfft! Imus is a no talent hack who has glommed every jock who he's heard. He does a crap Stern/Limbaugh show now and no one is listening. Maybe he can get more cancer kids to clean the horse shit out of his stables. He is not news worthy in any way. Ignore him like the troll he is.

he starts whining," It appears this man is attempting to cover up his own sins by sacrificing another.
Actually, Rush did the opposite of whining. He was extremely humble. He was also very unliberal to blame no one but himself, I have more respect for him than ever before because of the way he delt with all this.
I've never heard Imus, but he sounds like a hate-filled self denying dorky kind of guy.

Imus has said that Record Executives would give him drugs in the 70's and in return he would play their newest song.

Well, phooey...
I watched his show this morning and all this rough talk about Rush was very much in the context of what Imus himself has gone through. And this is his style.... Imus is not about flowery feel-good language about the heroism of hard fights.
THIS is what Rush needs to hear, he said, this is what Rush is hearing in his rehab program...
It is the wake up call, and Imus said the last thing he needs is coddling so he "FEELS" better. He said "Sounds harsh, but that is what it takes".
This is out of that context.

Fat? Geez, if Imus can't even get that simple aspect correct, what's the point of listening to him?
To: kattracks
Sounds like Imus' Oxigen mix was a little thin.

Assuming the quote is correct and in context (something one always has to be wary of with NewsMax), this is truly "the unkindest cut of all" from a self-confessed former coke-head, and BTW, there is no such animal as having been hooked on "prescription" cocaine. I know Imus' "posse" kid him about his addictions all the time, so that may be the origin of the "Rush is a whiner" comment: i.e. if Rush was a "real mensch" he would joked about his rehab, and had his friends call in to tease him about it.
To: cwboelter
I can't recall, but was there this much compassion for Bret Favre and Robert Downey Jr.? Did the press say these same things about JFK? The issue isn't compassion; the issue is hypocrisy. I don't recall Favre or Downey or even JFK supporting the War on Drugs or arguing in favor of imprisoning illegal drug users. (And I'm not certain that Favre or JFK took illegal drugs. They may have received painkillers prescribed by their doctors.) If Rush illegally purchased drugs, then he deserves the same punishment he has advocated for other people who've done so.

Imus is such a loser! He is sooo boring. I guess that's why his show has such low ratings. That guy needs a facelift and new dentures, ASAP!
To: Sandy
"Is Rush still fat?"
You would think he is by all the old pics the news shows have been showing of him. He is a big man but nowhere near as big as he used to be. Libs will never let go of the "fat" insult even though he lost much of it years ago.

I hear you but... Rehab isn't the end-of-the-world, a nightmare, or the tragedy it is made out to be. So he'll have to eat cafeteria food, be told where to go and what to do, when to get up and when to go to bed, and he'll have to take a good hard look at himself.
It's easy to joke about rehab when it's all over. When you don't know if you can stay sober it's a little harder. If he's lucky he'll come to understand that, while recovery from addiction is indeed possible, it's not so easy to activate the part of your soul that is needed to "just say no." I've found him to be less than empathetic with other people in the past who had a perceived "lack of will power".
