CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Mecklenburg County Board of Elections voted 2-1 Monday to dismiss allegations that Vilma Leake does not live in the district she represents on the county school board.
The Board of Elections said there was enough evidence to prove Leake does in fact live in District 2, the district she represents.

County Commissioner Bill James was one of the challengers who asked the board to track which address Leake’s bills and newspaper were sent to. James claimed Leake lives at a house she owns in District 6 and not her District 2 apartment.
The Local Board of Elections disagreed. The Board of Elections voted 2-1 to dismiss the allegations.
Leake's supporters called the charges a racial witch hunt. “Remember, you do not have to be white to practice racism and discrimination against a black board member,” said Terry Belk, a Leake supporter. “We had a lot of blacks involved in this, and they were being used by white segregationists. This is all about control over the school board and getting good black members off the school board.”
James dismissed those comments. “If that's the case, then why are two of the challengers black Democrats from the Greenville community?” the county commissioner asked.

This was never about race, this was about integrity.
Sworn testimony from her neighbors where she really lives (District 6)was not admitted into evidence.
The Board of Elections said there was enough evidence to prove Leake does in fact live in District 2, the district she represents.
The evidence she lives in District 2 was was: Leake changed her Voter Registration on July 12, 1997, Leake Changed her Drivers License on July 25, 1997 , Leake moved into her "apartment" on August 4th, 1997 The filing for School Board ended August 1st, 1997

Larry Gavreau is the sole member of the board who will openly hold the members of the board accountable to standards. As a result, he has been marginalized by polite Charlotte society as an "extremist".
This needs maximum exposure/disclosure!
