CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The South for Howard Dean is foreign territory. The presidential aspirant grew up in New York's East Hampton and Manhattan and made his name in Vermont. His only time in the South was spent working on a Florida farm as a teenager.

It's going to be interesting to see Dean and the other Eastern Yale Preppies demogogue the race thing. To me, minorities are becoming too aware to fall for this.

To me, minorities are becoming too aware to fall for this. They should be, because it hasn't done them much good. The idea of we'll give you everything for your vote is wearing a bit thin.

Don't bet on it. All Dean has to do is a lot of check book pandering with tax dollars and the black leadership will fall in line. That's after Al is out of the race of course.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pasty faced white boy doing the Clinton thing in a black church soon.

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

It will work . It always works for the Dems , Blacks are no more aware now than they were when the first carpetbaggers went south after Mr. Lincolns war. Now another one goes South to make promises.

independents and Republicans are permitted to vote in the Democratic contest
I hope SC conservatives get out and vote for Dean. (A vote for Dean is a vote for Bush.)

No, it'll work, to a point. Which is sad, because so many black voters down here are good God-fearing people and rather conservative socially, but they continue to allow themselves to support the far-left agenda of the Rats because they've just been brought up that "Rats are good, Republicans are racist and want to lynch you." They get fed this claptrap by the NAACP, by their pastors, by their radio stations, by their TV "personalities," and they buy into it. It's discouraging in a way, because the churchgoing black voter base could be a powerful force for social conservatism if they could be convinced to see things in a different light.

Seriously, though, the only 'rat candidate saying anything intellegent on the subject is Sharpton. Really. He says that the 'rats are taking African-Americans for granted and not doing anything. He is 100% right about that, even if you disagree about what the 'rats should do.
All the other 'rat candidates have nothing to say except that they are not Bush. That's a vote-getter for some, but not a winner.

"It was very convincing," said the African-American biology major from Ridgeville, S.C. "He's so antiwar, and that's a good thing. When President Clinton was in office, there was none of that drama. As soon as Bush came into office, it's been war and terrorist attacks. So I think we need a president who is antiwar." clinton ignored the terrorist attacks that took place during his admin. Denial is really an effective response. As long as we don't face it, it didn't happen. (sarcasm off).

Yes, totally illogical.

I really don't understand how Dean could even be considered for the most important leadership role in the world.
Vermont is less than a million population and 97% white. There would be plenty of Mayors more qualified than Dean.
I grew up in a city of less than 30,000 population; however, church and community leaders sought out and sponsored minorites to move into and work in that city.
If a small city can take action to increase diversity, there is no reason a state could not do the same.

Do promises count as action?
After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1,000; President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel;
Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
Maybe if Clinton had kept his promise, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, D.C. that are now dead would be alive today.
Where is the outrage?

Do promises count as action? I guess clintoon lovers like promises better than action. Your post was enough to make my blood boil.
Action involves risk, but well-taken action has rewards far superior to the risks. The clintoons were never risk takers, and as a result, never accomplished anything. What they did, as W once said, was "kick the can down the road".
I thank God that we haven't had to live with that degree of indecision for the last 3 years.
