In November 1988, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that noted Seattle's homicide rate was higher than Vancouver's and attributed the difference to stricter gun control in Vancouver. Although the study had serious flaws, including the failure to take into account important demographic differences between the two cities, it received generous coverage in two major newspapers known for their sympathy to gun control.

Good post! Important work by the Washington Times! Nice to see the Com-Post criticized as well.

My two cents: A larger study of a nation's total is far more significant than comparing two cities, which could be cherry-picked. The Brits are in a complete mess compared to the US. Once able to laugh at us, now their crime rate is 60% higher than ours'. Once their police didn't need to carry guns. Now they do. Ironic. An armed populace with disarmed police. Now the law abiding citizens are disarmed and the police are armed.

The problem is that conservatives do not control the media, liberals do and their agenda is on schedule. Until conservative really stick together and start to boycott we will never change that fact.
The NAACP and Jesse Jackson are far fewer in numbers than conservatives, yet they carry 10 times the weight with the media and advertising than conservatives do, why?
Liberals and the people aforementioned do some things conservatives dont and that is they are tenacious and stick together.
Conservatives make a mistake, they admit it bite the bullet and drop out or suffer the consequences. Liberals never admit a mistake nor turn on one of their own or hold them accountable regardless of what they do. I am not saying they are right I say they are skilled at lying, covering up and get away with it.
It is a sad day in America but its a fact it pays to lie cheat and steal and the liberals have set the gound rules and it works.

Reminds me of a quote from Thomas Paine,
"When the people fear the government, you have tyranny. When the government fears the people, you have freedom."

I agree with your assessment. It does seem like the "squeeky wheel gets ALL the oil!" I don't like the liberals lying, covering up, etc. either. I don't want to see conservatives fall into the trap of playing by the same ethics (or lack there-of!) as liberals. My company had an ethics training seminar, I took away a quote that I hope I remember forever....."It doesn't make it wrong if it's the right thing to do & NO-ONE else is doing it, and it doesn't make a right if it is the wrong thing to do & EVERYONE else is doing it. I do feel as a conservative I have an obligation to my values to be consistent and work in an ethical way to show the left for what it really is and that is Anti-American. Truth can be the most powerful weapon against a liberal. They don't respect the truth, they fear the truth, so when confronted by the truth they tend to lose their focus and resort to babbling, name calling and lies, which identifies them as such. I have had some "outing" of these rascals at work & have liberated a few democrat workers from their ignorance and they in turn have liberated their spouses. Our work is never done! Especially in Maryland!!

I haven't seen it but ther has been a lot of talk at work recently about Bowling for Columbine. Maybe this'll give me amunition to use in that argument.

Or maybe I should see the movie just so I can have that discussion. I just really don't want to spend my money to support Michael Moore.

The panelists considered 51 published studies examining seven different kinds of laws, including bans on specific firearms, restrictions on who may own a firearm, and waiting periods for gun purchases. They "found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws or combinations of laws."

After knocking John Lott, they conclude exactly the same thing that John Lott found in his "flawed" study, that firearms laws have zero effect on crime. Lott found that only one law was the exception, that is the shall issue concealed weapon law, which is not on the list of laws above.

Oh give them time and (alot) more public money and I'm sure they'll be able to manufacture enough facts in favor of 'gun control'. Its just that this time they were unable to meet that goal. After all the predetermined out come is that commoners shouldnt be allowed to have guns.
