Santa Monica -- Arnold Schwarzenegger's dramatic announcement on "The Tonight Show" Aug. 6 that he was running for governor of California was, to all appearances, a bolt out of the blue. Jay Leno gasped and the Tonight Show audience erupted in applause. Schwarzenegger's advisers insisted he had made the decision at the last minute.

The news media is still missing the obvious: Arnold's Democratic Party opposition (Davis, Bustamante, Sanchez) had no policy proposals of their own.

They offered no hope. They had no plan to save California. All that they did was claim that Arnold was a bad man, something that millions of movie viewers would never agree with no matter how much access the Democrats had in the media.

And the Democrats have that same problem nationally. They have no new ideas and offer no hope.

Good points. Besides, Bush is no Davis and his vision (thing) seems a bit clearer than his dad's. I'll take Bush over Gore during these times anyday, especially if the economy begins to bounce back.

Arnold and Republicans in California stand to gain from this as well. Barring a democrat instituted sabotage, we should soon be turning the corner on malaise.

Arnold didn't leave it to the gatekeepers of liberal print and news media to edit and transmit his messages to the population... he went specifically to venues that would let him talk directly to the voters themselves. That forced the print and news media to use snatches of tape and transcripts to create their "news" and they couldn't get too far off base with his statements already seen by the public.

It was a brilliant manipulation of the mass media that quite clearly was going to be working against him as a Republican. Well done, Arnold :-)

Glad you enjoyed the captioning. I placed them on my profile page, too. As you know, that second photo was taken on the morning of September 11th, 2001, when President Bush was being first alerted to the death and devastation being heaped upon our nation. That all pales in comparison, of course, to the great importance some people seem to place upon their own egos, from DNC candidates on down to clowns in other forums.

Garry South, a longtime adviser to Davis who is known for his own hardball media tactics, expressed more concern about the implications of Schwarzenegger's success.

"You guys have to come up with a new matrix for how you cover these candidates," he said.

Could Keanu Reeves become a viable candidate, at this rate? LOL
